Job description

Serve as Mental Wellness Coordinator for the youth; develop, train, execute, schedule, monitor and report on trauma focused cognitive behavior therapy (TF-CBT) services available and utilized for each youth and their progress. Identify, schedule, coordinate and supervise programs and services according to the 5-Point Child Development Plan with holistic care in the areas of Emotional, Social, Spiritual, Physical and Educational. As well as requirements of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (TDFPS) Residential Childcare Contract, Health and Human Services Commissions (HHSC) Minimum Standards and Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) for all assigned residents. The services must support the client’s service plan and child’s plan of service requirements to include behavioral health, life skills’ programs, Mental Wellness, academic programs, and vocational and recreational activities, cultural competence, maintaining connections and contact with siblings and family visits.

Essential Responsibilities and Accountability:

  • Read CPS Contract for clarity, comprehension and implementation for compliance.
  • Has comprehension and knowledge of all regulatory requirements to include contract, minimum standards and accreditation with target implementation goal of 100% compliance.
  • Exemplifies and promotes the Mental Wellness of the youth.
  • Develop relationships with community partners to promote participation within our program.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to set goals and assume ownership of responsibilities.
  • Assists in the development, administration, and production of programs that promote wellness and a healthy lifestyle for our youth.
  • Coordinate, publish, and facilitate a monthly calendar for all wellness activities including youth therapeutic services, on-site wellness events, and youth outings.
  • Identify and schedule therapeutic services to help support child’s plan of service requirements.
  • Ensures Mental Wellness equipment is sound and in working condition.
  • Sends weekly reminders about upcoming events to staff.
  • Document all events and the participation by the youth.
  • Teach therapeutic techniques to the youth that they can use for Mental Wellness.
  • Ensure the privacy and confidentiality of all clients and their records.
  • Complete duties in a professional and timely manner, meeting all deadlines.
  • Assist in staff development and training programs to provide staff with information, tools and knowledgeable to help them effectively implement service plan requirements, i.e., behavioral tools, diagnosis, coping skills, and Contract requirements. Etc.
  • Assist in preparation of quarterly and annual reviews by youth for Tomorrow.
  • Immediately report any concerns or issue, including alleged abuse, that affect the milieu of the facility to the Administrator.
  • Communicate effectively with others and deter gossip and negativity that impacts clients, staff and the workplace environment.
  • Ensure and maintain safety of property belonging to and on HWHF grounds.
  • Oversee implementation of program schedules and functions to ensure they are met in a professional and timely manner.
  • Attend monthly treatment team meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisor: Treatment Director

Work Environment: Office and residential setting interacting with clients. Exposure to blood or bodily fluids.

Work Hours: This is a full-time, minimum 40 hours per week position including some weekend, holiday, and evening hours.

Classification: Exempt

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree. Preferred field of Human Services.
  • A minimum of one year experience in therapeutic treatment and intervention of children with emotional disorders within a residential treatment center for youth.
  • Experience with trauma informed care and family/group therapy preferred.
  • Work with diverse populations

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Work with diverse populations and varied social service entities.
  • Strong clinical skills and knowledge of the treatment issues concerning children, adolescents, and adults dealing with development and other intellectual disabilities.
  • Ability to support the agency’s culture, growth, and success through communication, accountability, and positivity.
  • Work with treatment teams to create individual service plans.
  • Monitor emotional needs of clients and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Effective usage of computers to include Microsoft Word, Excel, the Internet, and other software applications.
  • Work with varied social service agencies
  • Manage emotions in a professional environment.
  • Monitor staff behaviors and document observations effectively.
  • Act in emergency or changing situations.
  • Work with teams to develop action plans for the organization and persons served.

Additional Requirements

  • Proof of valid Texas Driver’s License (Type C)
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • Proof of valid/current auto insurance
  • Copy of official state driving record
  • Three (3) employment references
  • Cleared criminal background check and signed statement regarding felony indictments/convictions
  • Cleared TB test results (current within 12 months prior to employment)
  • Cleared pre-employment drug test
  • Working cellular telephone
