Job Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Orangeburg AMHC Clinic Director, the individual will provide counseling and intensive services for clients with serious mental illness.
This position is located at the Orangeburg Area Department of Mental Health, 2319 St. Matthews Road, Orangeburg, SC 29118.
Orangeburg Area Mental Health Center / OAMHC is an approved site of the National
Health Service Corps, (NHSC), which offers student loan repayment of up to $50,000 to
employees of NHSC-approved sites. You must be a US citizen, you must be licensed to practice independently in the state where you are hired, and you must have unpaid government or commercial school loans. There is a two year service commitment required as well. Confirmation of qualifying for this loan repayment program is the responsibility of every applicant - we cannot guarantee your qualification.
Who We Are
Orangeburg Area Mental Health Center is part of the South Carolina Department of Mental Health. Orangeburg Area Mental Health Center/OAMHC provides Mental Health services to individuals in Orangeburg, Calhoun, Bamberg and Holly Hill Counties.
1. Functions as the primary clinician for assigned caseload of clients and assures that medical records are maintained based on established Center standards. Provide clinical services for all clients served and assures that goals and objectives are developed with clients for TX, interpret clients' behavior, progress and prepare a synopsis of clients' response to TX for assigned caseload.
2.Provides individual and family counseling, function as leader or co-leader in groups(s) to assist clients with strengthening and restoring life skills that are significant to their needs and recovery.
3. Provide intensive services for clients experiencing temporary difficulty with social, family issues, housing vocational or other life crisis.
4. Conduct follow up activity via telephone and routine home visits when clients are non-compliant; provide crisis management for clients and work closely with the psychiatrist to use an internal crisis diversion program when appropriate to divert admission to a state psychiatric facility.
5. Provide clinical documentation for services rendered to persons served; documentation requirements are in compliance with Medicaid -Section II Standards and Corporate Compliance.
6. Participate in Treatment Team; review clients' progress in TX; seek input for the Team regarding TX interventions to meet clients' needs, or readiness for transition; disposition TX outcomes to the internal sources assigned within the MHC for processing CARF data.
7. Participate in Staff Meetings and other assigned teams essential to Center operations. Participate in training opportunities essential to enhancement of knowledge and skills associated in work with persons that have a serious mental illness.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
DMH REQUIREMENTS: A master's degree in guidance, counseling, the social sciences or a related field.
AGENCY REQUIREMENTS: A master's degree from an accredited program, university, or
college in psychology, social work, counseling, marriage and family counseling or
other individual discipline deeded equivalent to SCDMH and one (1) year post-graduate experience in a clinical counseling program
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of normal and abnormal behavior adjustment techniques. Knowledge of clinical
practices and interviewing techniques. Knowledge of legal principals and practices. Knowledge of investigative techniques, principles and practices. Knowledge of methods, principles and practices of clinical counseling services. Knowledge of federal, state and local laws or regulations pertaining to a social service program. Ability to exercise discretion in interpreting and applying established objectives. Ability to effectively plan, coordinate and manage complex treatment interventions.
