Job Description
General Summary: The Behavioral Health Consultant is responsible for providing diagnostic and therapeutic services to individuals and their families. The Behavioral Health Consultant participates actively in all relevant team, supervision, and general staff meetings, to enhance the services of River Valley Health and Dental Center within an integrated healthcare setting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Provides treatment services to families including therapy, skills training, and education designed to enable families to care for their mentally ill or emotionally disturbed children in the home
· Works closely with other Mental Health specialists, such as psychiatrists, psychologists, clinical social workers, case managers, psychiatric nurses, school counselors, and behavioral health providers.
· Provides diagnostic and therapeutic services in accordance with standards applicable to Mental Health Professionals.
· Provide individual, family and/or group counseling services to children, adolescents, and families
· Adheres to and upholds the ethical standards of the profession.
· Documents work in accordance with company standards in the areas of diagnostic evaluations, progress notes, treatment plans, discharge procedures, and other consumer related activities.
· Participates in education and other activities necessary to maintain competency in clinical work.
· Actively participates in clinical team and staff meetings.
· Communicates effectively and works cooperatively with employees, families, schools, individuals, and the public.
· Provides clinical counseling in community settings, when applicable.
· Meets or exceeds productivity expectations
· Collaborate with other professionals, but primarily works independently
· Performs additional responsibilities as needed and/or outlined by the Behavioral Health Coordinator.
Outpatient Behavioral Health Consultant duties only (in addition to core duties):
· Provides behavioral health consultation to primary care and dental providers and staff.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Knowledge of behavior health diagnosis and coding for children/adolescent, adults, and
the elderly.
· Knowledge of child and adolescent developmental stages.
· Basic knowledge of program regulatory requirements and company program standards.
· Knowledge of computers and Microsoft software products.
· Knowledge and the ability to utilize good listening skills and comprehend verbal
instructions given in English.
· Ability to organize, prioritize, and multi-task.
· Ability to collaborate with the family and/or primary caregiver and/or other members of
the healthcare team.
· Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse population both orally and in writing, to
include written reports and documentation of treatment information.
· Ability to read and comprehend instructions written in English.
· Ability to write legibly in English in a clear, concise, and logical manner.
· Ability to speak clearly and express self effectively in English.

Minimum Education, Credentials, and Experience:
Must be Licensed Clinical Social Worker/ Licensed Professional Counselor/Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
Special Requirements:
Must be able to work flexible hours to meet individual’s and program’s needs.
Must have a valid driver’s license, good driving record, and access to a reliable vehicle to attend trainings, meetings, and/or transport individual to appointments.
Must have the ability to obtain clearances as defined by regulations.
