JOB TITLE:                  Mental Health Counselor/Social Worker (31n Grant Funded)

SUMMARY
The Mental Health Counselor/Social Worker (31n Grant Funded) will support Bay-Arenac districts in working with teams to identify general education students who need Mental Health support. This position will be directly involved with developing treatment plans and interventions, servicing students directly and coordinating communication with parents, staff and administration.
 
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
 
 
  1. Assess nature of students' situations by interviewing and reviewing personal history
  2. Develop and execute individual treatment plans by providing direct service to students
  3. Collect data regarding student progress and communicate student updates to all relevant parties
  4. Support the facilitation of the Child Study process including interpretation of data and the development of treatment plans, coordinate with parents, staff and administration
  5. Maintain accurate student case notes and documentation
  6. Provide diagnostic/consultative services including intervention designs such as Functional Behavior Assessment and Behavior Intervention Plan development. 
  7. Function as a liaison between home, school and community agencies.
  8. Continue professional growth through participation in professional development opportunities and professional associations, keeping a record of all professional activities. 
  9. Keep credentials updated and current.
  10. Provide in-service training to teachers, administrators, and other individuals, as appropriate.
  11. Be present in buildings with regular and continued attendance and punctuality.
  12. Follow all Board Policies, Staff Handbook and Administrative Guidelines.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
 
Must be certified under one of the following credentials:
 
  • A psychiatrist; 
  • A licensed master's level psychologist;
  • An MDE credentialed master's level school psychologist;
  • A licensed master's level marriage and family therapist;
  • A licensed master's level professional counselor;
  • A licensed master's level social worker;
  • A licensed master's level school social worker;
  • A licensed bachelor social worker (LBSW) The LBSW must be currently enrolled or plan to enroll in a program to become a Limited Licensed Master Social Worker (LLMSW) or a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) within 24 months of their date of hire.
  • A Michigan School Counselor with one of the following:
The school counselor must apply to LARA and meet all necessary requirements to become a Limited Licensed Professional Counselor (LLPC) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) within 24 months of their date of hire.
  • School Counselor License (SCL)
  • Michigan Teaching Certificate with the School Counselor (NT) endorsement
  • Preliminary School Counselor Credential (PSCC)
  • Temporary School Counselor License (TSCL)

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
 
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
 Ability to calculate figures and amounts.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
 
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
 
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Driver's License required. 
Must be certified under one of the following credentials:
  • A psychiatrist; 
  • A licensed master's level psychologist;
  • An MDE credentialed master's level school psychologist;
  • A licensed master's level marriage and family therapist;
  • A licensed master's level professional counselor;
  • A licensed master's level social worker;
  • A licensed master's level school social worker;
