Summary
Clallam County is seeking qualified applicants for a position as Mental Health Counselor Associate. This position operates as a part of True Star Behavioral Health, which is the treatment division of Juvenile and Family Services and provides chemical dependency, Mental Health, and co-occurring treatment/therapy to juvenile clients and families. The Mental Health Counselor Associate (MHCA) is a highly skilled clinician who provides behavioral health services for youth and families under the direct supervision of a Licensed Mental Health Clinical Supervisor. The Mental Health Counselor Associate can provide information, assessments, counseling, group therapy, family counseling, educational classes, community referrals, case management, and discharge services for youth, most of who are under Juvenile Court jurisdiction, at the direction of the clinical supervisor.
Individuals assigned to this classification perform all aspects of the Mental Health Counselor Associate (MHCA) position with proficiency and latitude for considerable independent judgment and action in stressful and emotionally charged situations where errors could have substantial impact in legal areas, as well as psychological impact to the individual juvenile. Complicated or sensitive matters to be referred to management as appropriate. Directly reports case information promptly to the Clinical Supervisor, and the Administrative Operations Manager as needed.
The Mental Health Counselor Associate will coordinate work to be performed with appropriate Juvenile and Family Services department superiors, including coordination of services with other Clallam County departments and outside community agencies.
Education
A Master's Degree in social work, psychology, or related behavioral health field from an accredited college or university is required. It is expected that this employee will work toward licensure as a Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). Supervision may be provided for licensure.
An Associate's Degree in chemical dependency or a closely related field is also recommended. This employee will seek dual certification to become licensed as a Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP). Supervision may be provided for licensure.
Experience
- Coursework and professional experience that indicates knowledge of Mental Health counseling, group and individual psychotherapy, diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders, biopsychosocial assessment techniques, crisis intervention, and Mental Health consultation.
- Current licensure in Washington State as a Mental Health Counselor Associate, Social Worker Associate, or Marriage and Family Therapist Associate. License must be in good standing with no license restrictions or probationary status.
- Meet issuance of license requirements as required by RCW 18.225.145
- Current Washington State Certification as a Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP) recommended. If licensed must be in good standing with no license restrictions or probationary status.
- Experience working with youth and adolescence preferred
- United States citizenship or lawful permanent resident and the ability to read and write the English language as required by RCW 41.14.100.
