JOB SUMMARY

The Mental Health Clinician interacts with clients on a day-to-day basis providing individual, group and family

counseling, as well as engaging in therapeutic, psychosocial, and drug-free activities. MH Clinician provides symptom management

information and leadership necessary to provide clients with the ability to function in the school, community, and family environment.

• Uses intake and screening instruments, using a gender-specific assessment of needs to obtain a complete medical history; history of substance abuse; physical, emotional, and sexual abuse/incest history; psychological history; educational level; work history; involvement with the legal system; and assessment of children's needs in all developmental areas.
• Develop individualized plan of services throughout the continuum of care including ongoing assessment and treatment needs, delivery of therapeutic services, follow-up services for the youth to prevent relapse, and support services for families.
• Provides case management throughout the duration of treatment, including post release to integrate all community and program activities to assure that youth and families receive services appropriate to their needs, including: applications for AFDC, Medi Cal, Food Stamps, ongoing health care; housing; life skills management, education, employment, and 12-Step programs.
• Maintain a clinical caseload as prescribed by the Program Manager. Provide services offered in the context of family and other relationships including individual, group and family counseling.
• Provides guidance in determining educational and vocational goals based on the interests and preferences of each woman in addition to individualized assessments.
• Initiates appropriate and timely interventions. Designates new target goals for youth consistent with overall treatment goals.
• Integrates clinical concepts with sound theoretical and practical applications of rehabilitative and individual group and milieu counseling principles.
• Interacts therapeutically with youth, maintaining distinction between therapeutic and social relationships.
• Maintains timely, accurate and legible documentation using assigned forms and formats for each youth in his/her caseload.
• Assists other staff in dealing with problematic youth and family behavior.
• Consults with attending psychiatrist regarding medication and treatment of youth. Assesses and recognizes behavior or changes in mood that indicate suicidal or homicidal intent or plan, and immediately reports
• Attends treatment meetings and provides input to treatment plan.
• Comply with all MHS and program rules, policies and procedures including HIPAA standards
• Other relevant duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

• M.S./M.A. degree in Social Work with an emphasis of Clinical Social Work, Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling or other course of study acceptable to the State of California Board of Behavioral Science towards Licensed Clinical Social Worker Marriage and family Therapist.
• Or Current good standing enrollment in, or completion of, the final semester Master's Degree program in Social Work with an emphasis in Clinical Social Work or Marriage, Family Child Counseling, or other course of study acceptable to the State of California B.B.S. towards licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Marriage, and Family Therapist., at an accredited college.
• Proficient user of Microsoft Office Suite and EHR software.
• Ability to problem solve and react appropriately to emergency situations.
• Ability to work independently and effectively collaborate with a team.
