Washtenaw Health Project is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping people access the affordable healthcare they deserve. In addition to assisting people with Medicaid and Marketplace Insurance applications, we provide a safety net healthcare plan, the Washtenaw Health Plan. The Washtenaw Health Plan ensures that anyone who does not qualify for health insurance has access to the health care they need by covering the cost of routine and medically necessary healthcare services. About our team
We are a team of 15 Member Services Specialists and Community Health Workers who care deeply about our clients and team members. Our office culture is non-competitive, supportive, compassionate, and collaborative. Our collective with years of service range from 1 to 25 years. Our backgrounds range from education, accounting, social work, and public health to joining because we want to help people. We have bilingual staff members who speak Spanish, French, and Arabic–in addition to English–so that our clients can feel comfortable discussing their unique situations in their native language.
Washtenaw Health Project is seeking two people to join our growing team as Member Services Specialists. This position works alongside a diverse group of helpful, experienced, and supportive specialists to help our clients enroll in healthcare coverage. JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Program Manager, and in conjunction with the enrollment team, Washtenaw Health Project Member Services Specialists work to connect community members to the affordable healthcare they deserve. This includes assisting Washtenaw Health Project clients with enrollment and renewal applications, identifying referrals and assisting with enrollment in other programs and services, and member education for Washtenaw Health Plan members. Language preference for this position is bi-lingual (Spanish).
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:
- Does one-on-one client enrollment
- Assesses the appropriateness of enrollment as well as other client needs
- Provides member education to enrolling Washtenaw Health Plan members
- Assists office staff with and resolves problems; handles difficult client problems.
- Provides information to the public or to county staff in person or over the telephone that requires knowledge of Washtenaw Health Plan activities and functions and the application of policies, regulations and procedures.
- Member of enrollment team committee and active participant in decision-making for continuous improvement; assists in evaluation of existing program services and activities.
- Discusses findings with management staff and assists in implementing changes resulting from studies and analyses.
- Collaborates with enrollment team, Member Services and case management specialists on updates to the member handbook and other member education materials and sessions.
- Represents Washtenaw Health Project in contacts with other human service agencies, local officials and others to mobilize resources for clients and maintain positive community relations. participates on county committees and in professional development activities.
- Performs other related work as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bilingual (Spanish) is preferred
- Two years of education in a field related to social work, public health, psychology, finance or equivalent.
- Three years of member/customer service work is desired.
- Experience with non-profit and/or health agencies is desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, without close supervision is necessary.
