Job Description
The Medical Technologist performs test procedures the clinical laboratory and conveys the results to the physician or designee in an accurate and timely manner for the purpose of patient diagnosis and treatment. The Medical Technologist performs as a generalist maintaining competency in one or more laboratory sections including but not limited to Chemistry, Microbiology, Hematology, and Blood bank.
This is a part Time Eve shift opportunity.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs all aspects of pre-analytic workflow appropriate for the specific laboratory section to ensure orders are entered correctly, specimens collected are appropriate for the test ordered and are correctly processed/transported.
- Participates in the receiving and processing of specimens.
- Performs all aspects of analytical testing for the specific laboratory section, following established written protocols and standard operating procedures.
- Performs preventative maintenance on instruments/equipment.
- Verifies reagents and supplies meet acceptability criteria and ensures enough reagents and supplies are available.
- Performs and records all necessary quality control, evaluates QC results and takes necessary corrective actions.
- Prioritizes testing based on established priorities and within defined turn-around-times.
- Responds effectively to changes in the workflow by coordinating a simultaneous series of tests when needed or adjusting work to incorporate STAT tests or fluctuations in work volume.
- Reviews results for completeness, correctness, and consistency within defined test system. Recognizes unusual test results/interpretations and completes indicated reflex testing or other follow-up actions.
- Follow established protocols for critical values, result requests, and abnormalities.
- Recognizes test system performance problems and takes necessary corrective actions, escalates unresolved problems and performs necessary follow-up actions.
- Reconciles Pending logs to ensure tests are completed or cancelled when needed.
- Performs all aspects of the post-analytical workflow to ensure results are reported within established time frames, specimens are retained appropriately, test results and/or current status are available upon inquiry.
- Perform validation new lots, AMR, and linearity.
- Participate in the execution of validation plans for new equipment or analytes.
- May serve as a preceptor/trainer for new staff members or students.

Education and/or Experience
One of the following qualifications must be met.
- Bachelor’s degree in medical technology from an accredited college or university.
- Bachelor’s degree in one of the following; chemical, physical or biological sciences and in addition has at least 1 year of pertinent full-time clinical laboratory experience.
- Associate Science in Medical Technology; and 2 years of clinical laboratory experience.
- Two years of clinical laboratory experience preferred
