Job Summary: The Medical Operations Liaison is a position in the Philadelphia Phillies Medical Department that will directly function under the guidance of the Head Athletic Trainer (HAT) and Minor League Medical Coordinator (MLMC). The liaison is required to be a certified athletic trainer and will be based out of Clearwater, FL for spring training and Philadelphia, PA for the regular season. During the off-season, the liaison may be asked to participate in organizational meetings, provide athletic training coverage for minor league camps, and attend medical appointments as needed. The liaison will function in a dual role of administration as well as serving as an additional clinician for the Major League club and the surrounding affiliates in Allentown, PA, Reading, PA, and Lakewood, NJ as determined by the HAT and MLMC.
Purpose: The purpose of the Medical Operations Liaison is to provide an opportunity for an athletic trainer to develop in their professional career by gaining major league experience in the organization, clinical management, and education while assisting in providing a higher quality of care to the players at the upper levels of the minor leagues and at the major league level. The position will be reviewed on an annual basis for the betterment of the athletic training department and the ATC's that serve in the role. After completing one season in the role, an ATC will be better prepared to take on a multitude of roles and responsibilities ultimately enhancing their career.
Responsibilities:
- Administration
- Accompany players to physician appointments, radiology imaging, or surgery.
- Assist MiLB Liaison in EMR medical record keeping in order to maintain compliance with the MLB EMR Committee minimum standards.
- Oversee Workers Compensation claim reporting and participate in monthly meetings.
- Primary lead on durable medical equipment (DME) calibration and maintenance for all Clearwater facilities.
- Oversee OSHA compliance and record keeping for the Major League club.
- Primary lead on communicating player duty days for the accounting department.
- Assist in coordinating major league and minor league spring training physicals.
- Coordinate with the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Coordinator in scheduling all therapeutic use exemption (TUE) applications, follow up appointments. and documentation.
- Clinical
- Assist in the treatment/rehabilitation of major league players during spring training and the regular season.
- While the major league team is on the road, the liaison will perform rehabilitation of major league players that remain in Philadelphia, PA and/or assist affiliate ATC's in Allentown, PA, Reading, PA, or Lakewood, NJ as assigned by the HAT and MLMC.
- As determined by the HAT, the liaison may travel with the major league club on road trips to allow major league ATC or PT to remain in Philadelphia, PA.
- Assist the Draft Medical Coordinator with MLB Amateur Combine physicals and assessments
Required Qualifications:
- National Athletic Trainer's Association - Board of Certification in good standing.
- Eligible and in good standing for Florida and Pennsylvania State Licensure.
- CPR / AED Certified
- Minimum 2 years work experience as a certified athletic trainer in a collegiate, professional, or similar high performance environment
- Able to work extended hours including nights and weekends with the ability to travel regionally across the northeast on a regular basis
Preferred Qualifications:
- Spanish Proficiency
- Previous professional baseball experience
- M.S. or other advanced degree/study
