Summary:

 

The Medical Logistics Technical Instructor will support and provide training services with tasks including assisting in conducting training and providing subject-matter expertise. Specific objectives are to achieve student success through the performance of the training and provide accurate and timely technical information and support to leadership.

 

The primary task is providing classroom or related instruction under the supervision of the Program Director. Instructors plan and provide student instruction in accordance with approved curriculum guidelines and required program standards. Services for this contract will be provided at Joint Base San Antonio, Fort Sam Houston Military Education and Training Campus (METC) or MEDCoE to include a classroom, office, and in a simulation, laboratory setting that is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Plan and provide student instruction in accordance with approved curriculum guidelines and required program standards.
  • Tasks pertaining to general course administration include student/academic counseling, test or assignment administration and grading, and quality improvement efforts.
  • Teaches assigned OTA classes according to approved course syllabi.
  • Demonstrates willingness and ability to teach various courses, times, locations, and delivery methods, as needed and as reasonably requested by the program.
  • Utilizes appropriately challenging coursework to help students realize their full potential as learners.
  • Provides students with verbal and/or written expectations, e.g., syllabi, policies, assignment instructions, graded evaluations.
  • Administers and evaluates tests/assessments which are appropriate to course content.
  • Maintains an appropriate learning and assessment climate in the classroom, whether traditional, web, or distance, which encourages the free exchange of ideas while defending academic honesty and objectivity.
  • Effectively able to advise students.
  • Prepares adequately for class and arrives promptly at class meetings, labs, and any other scheduled instructional activities.
  • Delivers material in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Addresses student concerns, i.e., comments, questions, and input, both in class and via office hours, timely electronic communication, and other suitable means.
  • Implements assigned instructional didactic and laboratory activities.
  • Assists with activities to maintain program accreditation.
  • Submits schedule in a timely manner to the program director before each pay period.
  • Maintains effective relationships with professional counterparts throughout the program, METC campus, and installation.
  • Support for the instruction of the Medical Logistics Specialist Program with tasks including assisting in developing curriculum and instructional materials, conducting training, and providing subject-matter expertise.
  • Specific objectives are to assist in the development of accurate and effective instructional and technical support materials, achieve student success through the conduct of the training, doctrine review, and provide accurate and timely technical information and support to leadership.
  • The instructor will deliver up to 248 teaching hours per iteration.
  • Curriculum delivery will provide a basic knowledge of:
    • Army Medical Logistics fundamentals
    • Army Information systems (DMLSS, DCAM, GCCS-A, and TEWLS),
    • Logistics policies and procedures in Army Medical Logistics commands, missions, and organizational structures of various components.
  • Training objectives are achieved through lecture, group activities, demonstration, hands-on instruction, Army Medical Logistics experience, and computer-based or blended learning options.
  • The instructor will assist with performance evaluations and testing per iteration to assess students’ knowledge and skill development.
  • Will review and revise up to 720 academic hours of instruction during non-podium hours.
  • Assist in development and updating instructional materials (such as lesson plans, student notes with illustrations, visual aids, and examinations) incorporating current technical subject matter, DoD doctrine, policies, guidelines, lessons learned, and current work practices into the instructional materials and training program in accordance with the Program of Instruction, policies, and guidelines provided. 
  • Conduct classroom and laboratory instruction (i.e., teach) of any/all lesson topics in the courses using the approved course materials and methods that are likely to ensure that students meet established learning objectives.
  • Prepare cases, set up, and administer/conduct practical exercises.
  • Assist in development, set up, administer, and grade written and practical examinations as well as perform appropriate statistical analysis on exam results in accordance with the policies and guidelines provided.
  • Instruction may be conducted in a virtual environment over the internet using programs such as Blackboard, Microsoft TEAMS, ZOOM, or other virtual enhancement programs. This may require monitoring and responding to questions or message board information/requests.
  • Provide SME support to Computer-/Web-Based Component of the course. 
  • Provide SME/scientific technical support that is technically accurate, insightful, and creative; contribute to technical scientific discussions in a manner that is positive contribution to group/teamwork.
  • Perform course administrative functions including maintaining student and course administrative records, organizing training materials, and identifying supply needs.
  • Perform typical training logistics activities such as using supplies and equipment in accordance with Plan of Instruction, maintaining the order and cleanliness of the training facility as needed, and assisting with setting up and moving furniture and equipment within the facility.

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Exhibit knowledge of safety regulations and procedures and shall adhere to applicable safety regulations and policies.
  • Be able to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Possess excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Possess good interpersonal relationship skills necessary for establishing and maintaining a good learning and working environment with students and faculty.
  • Be capable of learning and utilizing current and emerging military and commercial technology.
  • Be proficient with the Microsoft Windows 10 and Microsoft Office suite and incorporated programs to include Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and Access; be proficient with photo editing software (specific item may vary).
  • Be able to troubleshoot basic computer hardware and software required for services being provided under each individual task order.
  • Able to stand and walk around classroom/laboratory for 2 hours continuously and intermittently for 2 hours.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Instructor must hold an Associate degree awarded by an institution that is accredited by a recognized institutional accrediting agency, and must have a minimum of two (2) years of full-time experience in Army Medical Logistics
  • Minimum two (2) years of academic and experiential qualifications and backgrounds (identified in documented descriptions of roles and responsibilities) that are necessary to meet program objectives and the mission of the institution.
  • Documented expertise in their area(s) of teaching responsibility and knowledge of the content delivery method (e.g., distance learning).
  • Evidence of expertise in teaching assignments might include documentation of continuing professional development, relevant experience, faculty development plan reflecting acquisition of new content, incorporation of feedback from course evaluations, and other sources.
  • Minimum Two (2) years’ experience as an Army Medical Logistics
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check.

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in logistics, but not mandatory.
