The Medical Librarian assesses, identifies, evaluates, and provides resources to ensure a current and authoritative collection of materials that reflect the needs of core customers. Participates in diverse activities that support the mission of Inova Health System and provides a full range of reference services to meet the information needs of a diverse client base to include Inova medical staff, team members, residents, students, patients and family members. Provides input and participates in the operation of the department to ensure the quality of service provided.
** Please note: This position requires a two evening a week (12pm-8pm) commitment, though more evenings are possible, if desired. We are open 8am - 8pm - Possibility to work from home 1-2 days a week once training is complete.**
Job Responsibilities
- Develops and maintains productive and positive relationships with vendors, colleagues, faculty, students, and staff.
- Maintains and updates critical library systems such as OpenAthens, Ovid Discovery Service, Koha (ByWater), SpringShare, and library databases.
- Ensures the visibility of newly acquired databases and the accessibility of all electronic resources and the ability to develop & maintain documentation on their effective use.
- Gathers and reports usage statistics of all electronic resources. Develop reporting format and publish for non-librarian stakeholders.
- Documents and updates processes and procedures for maintaining library systems.
- Keeps affiliated groups and library users informed of developments with emerging technologies, trends, and best practices for information in health sciences.
- Work as a member of the team to support the overall operations of the Library and support initiatives as assigned; Provides proactive, high-quality customer service to library users, including activities such as in-depth reference consultations, online search training, & assistance with accessing resources; Designs and develops programs to teach effective, efficient use of library resources, research skills, and library services, including preparation and delivery of formal and informal presentations to groups or individuals. May perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Experience – 1 year library experience or equivalent (volunteer and internship activities may be considered)
Education - Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program or international equivalent in library or information science by the time of hire
