Commonwealth Primary Care is searching for full time Lab technician for our Glen Forest location.
Primary Responsibilities:
· Ensure interactions between physicians, nursing and all other allied health staff is professional and ethical.
· Follow the laboratory’s procedure for specimen collection, handling, and processing, as well as test analysis, reporting, and maintaining records of test results;
· Follow the laboratory’s quality control policies
· Document quality controls activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance
· Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either correcting the problem or notifying the supervisor;
· Understand and perform all duties on the checklists associated with the Laboratory Technician position
· Follow the laboratory’s safety policies as defined by OSHA. Cooperate with coworkers in the completion of assignments.
· Sets priorities for specimens with special conditions, i.e. STATS or short expiration dates.
· Employs Standard Precautions, infection control, and proper isolation techniques.
· Performs specimen processing in a safe, accurate and professional manner.
· Prepares various samples for analysis while maintaining positive patient identification throughout the preparation process.
· Performs CLIA-waived testing if deemed necessary by laboratory supervisor.
· Cleaning and disinfecting of work areas. Maintain neat and orderly work space.
Qualifications:
One year technician training in a formal training program;
Minimum 60 semester hours from a regionally accredited college, including chemistry, biology, and Medical Laboratory techniques, or an Associate degree in chemistry, biology or related science
Ability to learn and utilize multiple computer skills.
Basic knowledge of laboratory testing, CPT codes and laboratory terminology.
Professional and courteous attitude.
