The Medical Collector will utilize their knowledge of medical billing and coding practices to ensure accurate and timely reimbursement for medical services provided by our physicians. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the collection of outstanding medical bills from patients and insurance companies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED certificate.
One year medical collections and general understanding of collection and billing practices, including appeal processes and deadlines.
Knowledgeable about medical collection practices, billing requirements, medical terminology, hospice and palliative care services, computers and billing software. Ability to maintain records and to prepare reports. Have effective writing and communication skills, especially by telephone. Understanding and maintaining deadlines and ability to systematically follow-up and follow-through.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Contacts payor sources to determine status of payments and to assure timely payments of claims. Assures all deadlines are met and all collections are timely and effectively pursued.
Maintains records and prepares reports as requested in a timely manner.
Researches patient insurance information and updates billing information.
Protects privacy rights of patients and confidentiality of all financial and other records.
Completes all documentation in an accurate and legible manner.
Complies with hospice policies and procedures, laws and regulations and standards of practice.
Performs other tasks as may be assigned.
