Job Description
As the EMS Coder, you will play a vital role in transcribing and translating emergency transport service clinical records into ICD-10 codes. Your specialized knowledge in EMS coding will ensure accurate billing charge production as an integral part of the claim submission process.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Research and compile information for accurate billing processes, assigning billing charge codes and ICD-10 codes, considering signs, symptoms, and mechanisms of injury.
Prioritize classification codes based on severity for effective billing purposes.
Stay informed about payer lists of allowed and appropriate codes for EMS services.
Prioritize workflow for timely claim submission.
Demonstrate knowledge of state and federal insurance regulations.
Analyze and resolve complex issues.
Uphold Medicare, Medicaid, and HIPAA guidelines.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum of two years of recent EMS ICD-10 Coding Experience (excluding coding for other than EMS) required
High school diploma or equivalent.
Certification in Medical Coding is required.
Knowledge of Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding (HCPCS) codes.
Understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, and HIPAA guidelines.
