Position Summary
Reporting to the Practice Administrator and Clinical Supervisor, the Medical Assistant (MA) provides support to the Surgeon, Physician Assistant (PA), Nurse Practitioner (NP) Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in delivering patient care. The MA is responsible for rooming patients and assisting in the day-to-day patient care activities of the practice, ensuring adherence to established clinical policies, protocols, regulations & standards.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Escorts patient to examination rooms
- Prepare patients for examination by Surgeon, PA or NP; captures all vital signs, provide gown, take photos, start progress notes (Scribe) & other key indicators as directed, utilizing universal precautions
- Gather information and patient history including medical history sheet, medications, allergies, lab work and support triage
- Assist Surgeon, PA, NP, RN, LPN as needed with examinations, measurements, and photos
- Responsible for carrying out patient care directives instructed by the Surgeon, PA, NP, RN, or LPN to ensure quality patient care such as removing and applying dressing, applying garments, topical anesthetic, cold packs, etc.
- Support the LPN by answering calls and messages. Documenting all calls as appropriate in the EMR.
- Support the LPN as needed with setting up procedure trays, instruments and equipment.
- Support LPN as needed with collection and preparation of specimens and cultures for transport to the lab.
- Monitor clinical supply inventory, requisitions supplies & coordinates restock process
- Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies
- Promote continuous improvement of workplace safety & environmental practices
- Support front desk / check-out as needed by greeting patients and visitors, educating and addressing all patient inquiries, registering new patients, updating patient demographics, ensuring patient intake forms are completed, maintaining provider schedules, collections of payments, scanning, etc. to provide clerical support and cross-coverage as necessary or assigned by the Practice Administrator.
What You Must Bring to This Role
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience - required
- Medical Assistant Certificate – not required
- Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with patients, physicians & other staff members - required
- Demonstrated leadership adopting Medical Technology/Information Technology
- Track record of absolute intolerance for tardiness, absenteeism and professionally immature behavior - required
- Working knowledge and understanding of clinical organization structure and workflow.
- Experience in patient information gathering, evaluation and triage procedures
- Proven success in the ability to read, understand, follow & enforce safety procedures
- A history of excellence in communication, active listening, & problem-solving
- Strong interpersonal skills & history of effectively working across a wide range of individuals
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills

- Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard and in the performance duties
