Overview
Provides patient care by collecting data and conducting a focused assessment for oncology patients. Assists in maintaining examination rooms for outpatient care.
Responsibilities
- Greets, checks in patients, and notifies appropriate provider. Prepares patient, room, and equipment for outpatient visit.
- Reviews charts prior to patients scheduled appointment to assure that all requested lab work, images and diagnostic procedures have been completed and that reports have been returned and are accessible to the provider.
- Takes and records vital signs. Informs provider of patient vital signs and concerns.
- Recognizes and treats urgent patients as a priority, assists with patient examinations and treatments.
- Handles patient situations over the phone, schedules appointments and follow up visits with medical professionals. Understands limitations in dealing with patients over the phone and involves nursing staff and providers.
- Register new patients and establishes a medical record.
- Assists patients by filling out insurance and other forms.
- Supplies authorized information upon request by third party payors.
- Participates in quality assurance activities and all training seminars (OSHA and others).
- Assists in orientation of new employees under the direction of the manager.
- Takes messages and assists providers with return phone calls to patients and pharmacies.
- Instructs patients in preparation for specific radiation procedures.
- Operates and maintains clinical equipment.
- Maintains and uses aseptic technique, disinfection and disposal of contaminated material.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program required.
- Previous experience in office or outpatient ambulatory care setting preferred.
- Demonstrated strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work well as a member of a team.
- Computer skills strongly preferred.
- Area of Interest: MA/LNA;
- FTE/Hours per pay period: 24-32 hours with potential for fulltime
- Shift: Day; Generally, 8-430
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: From $22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 24 – 32 per week
