About You:
The Lead Medical Assistant will support and assist the physicians, PAs, and APRNs at the medical centers in the delivery of high-quality medical care. The Lead Medical Assistant also provides guidance and training to the other Medical Assistants in the center.
Qualifications/Experience:
- Active, unrestricted Medical Assistant Certification preferred from the State of work
- High Diploma or equivalent required
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program required
- Basic CPR certificate for both adults and children
- Minimum of 3 years as a Medical Assistant preferred
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a geriatric clinical setting preferred
- Experience in executing treatments within the scope of practice
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Must be proficient in the use of electronic medical records, Microsoft Office and knowledge of computers, scanners, etc.
- Must have the ability to learn and practice office procedures, policies, and protocols
- Required to have a command of the English and Spanish languages and be proficient with grammar, spelling, and verbal skills to communicate with patients, providers, and staff in written and oral communication
Responsibilities:
- Performs pre-visit planning 48 hours in anticipation of a patient visit to ensure a meaningful, high-quality experience
- Ensures that all vital signs are entered into the patient record in preparation for the visit with the clinician and alerts the clinician with any abnormalities or patient comments that need to be addressed
- Performs medication reconciliation on the day of the patient visit, including over the counter medications and allergies
- Assists the primary care provider with the completion of Health Risk Assessments, Care of Older Adults evaluation, and Adult Access to Preventive assessments
- Ensures that all patient rooms are clean, organized and that any instrument needed for a particular visit is available for the clinician
- Reviews all recommendations that the clinician has entered into the patient record and ensures that the patient has clear understanding of all instructions prior to leaving the office and the importance of compliance with all recommended medications, referrals and treatments
- Reviews at the end of each day with the clinician, all patients that did not come for their established appointments to see the reason for the appointment and reschedule the appointment accordingly
- Serves as an advocate to ensure patient compliance with preventive screenings and immunizations
- Complies with HIPPA requirements for patient confidentiality
- Ensures that all calls from patients and providers are addressed daily by the clinician and assists the clinician in communicating with patients
- Ensures that all patients have an outstanding patient experience and that all their medical needs have been met
- Complies with regular attendance and hours of operations policy.
- Works in collaboration with the PCP on high-risk patients and other patients identified as needing additional support
- Performs phlebotomy when assigned
- Performs other procedures, such as electrocardiograms, nebulizer treatments, ear lavages, as ordered by the clinician and in accordance with trained skills
- Assists in the supervision of work and performance of the other Medical Assistants in the assigned center(s)
- Oversees and trains new and existent Medical Assistants as needed
- Provides sick/vacation leave backup coordination for Medical Assistants
- Assists with the quality assurances reviews including the Medical Alert Box Medication Log and monthly review for expired medications
- Other duties as needed and/or assigned
