Join UChicago Medicine Care Network, as a Medical Assistant at our Lansing location. In this role you will partner with the rest of the clinical team to provide patients the highest quality of care.
In this role, a Medical Assistant is an employee who performs a wide variety of patient care services under the direct supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice nurse (APN) or physician. Such services can involve therapeutic and/or diagnostic procedures.
Responsibilities include:
- Triage, conduct vitals
- Experience administering vaccinations and immunizations
- Complete paperwork and forms
- Check schedules and organize patient flow
- Accompany patients to exam/procedure room
- Assist patients as needed
- Prepare room for exam
- Collect patient history
- Perform screenings per provider guidelines
- Assist physicians/nurses with various procedures
- Chart; relay instructions to patients/families
- Answer calls
- Send/receive patient medical records
- Obtain lab/X-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc
- Complete forms/requisitions as needed
- Schedule appointments
- Insurance coverage verification
- Manage and update charts to ensure that information is complete and filed appropriately
- Prescription Refills
- Ordering, sorting, storing supplies
- Restock exam/procedure room
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must have a current certificate of cardiopulmonary resuscitation training
- Experience working in a community health setting
- Position requires completion of a certified/registered program for Medical Assistants that are recognized by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross (CMA, RMA, CCMA, NCMA)
- Minimum of one year of recent experience working in a medical office/facility
Preferred Qualifications
- Considerable skill in communicating verbally, determining priorities, and in organizing work; ability to maintain an organized, alphabetized filing system
- General working knowledge of PC: Excel, Microsoft Word for Windows, and EPIC
- Computerized appointment scheduling experience
- Ability to handle stress in a fast-paced environment
- Considerable skill in handling sensitive public contacts with discretion, tact and courtesy when dealing with patients, coworkers and physicians
- Physical ability to perform stocking, lifting and transporting supplies and instruments
