The Medical Assistant Apprentice is a student currently enrolled in an approved MA program who is employed in a non-certified capacity under the direct supervision of a Certified Medical Assistant. Participants will achieve clinical and administrative skills necessary to become a Certified Medical Assistant, which will include assisting in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a designated healthcare provider.
- Under direct supervision, performs a variety of tasks and patient care activities, gathers vital signs, collects non-invasive body fluid specimens, and documents as needed
- Completes online coursework
- Attends weekly labs
- Demonstrates and adheres to the Kootenai Health Code of Conduct and Ethics
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
- Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
- Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
- Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned
Requirements and Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Must be enrolled and in good standing in a state approved MA Program by Kootenai Health Orientation program

- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Certified Phlebotomists preferred
- Upon completion of the program, CCMA required
- Experience working in medical office preferred
- Working knowledge of medical terminology, confidentiality, HIPAA and electronic health record systems preferred
- BLS Required. Current AHA Healthcare provider, American Red Cross, AHA Health Saver or KH BLS within 60 days of hire

- Must be able to maintain a standing and/or sitting position
- Typical equipment used in a clinical job
- Must be able to stoop, crouch or bend
- Must be able to push, pull, or transport heavy equipment
