About the role:
Supports the development of and executes on the annual Medical Strategic Plan for Interventional Oncology and Embolization Product(s) by providing medical and scientific therapeutic area expertise to cross-function teams and by completing deliverables in support of IO&E product strategy. The Medical Affairs and Education Manager works closely within cross-functional teams in planning, creating and executing on Medical Affairs and Medical Education deliverables and programs aligned to support data dissemination and knowledge enhancement of the product(s). Identifies and engages HCPs through collaborative partnerships to enhance educational initiatives, to advance the appropriate application of therapies that provide life enhancing outcomes.
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Delivers on the Global Medical Plan tactics providing data generation, knowledge exchange/data communications and ongoing scientific support for initiatives related to the Embolization and Delivery and Ablation portfolios (EAD&A).
  • Positions clinical data and clinical experience with the product to the Field Medical and Commercial organizations in a way that ensures appropriate data dissemination and interpretation and expected use of the product.
  • Supports Commercial, Regulatory and Market Access departments with medical expertise input and scientific materials to complete promotional material development or regulatory/funding applications.
  • Provides medical review and approval of promotional and non-promotional material including externally prepared slide decks eg. for symposia, Medical Education and Speaker Program activities
  • Identifies key opinion leaders (KOLs) in the industry, expert speakers, and well-known academics who can deliver the defined medical education curriculum as well as provide technical and clinical insight with real-world applications
  • Works closely with Field Medical function by assisting in content generation and training.
  • Manages publication related activities associated with product(s)
  • Provides input into clinical trial program associated with assigned product(s) e.g. trial design, site selection, lead publication plan, advisory boards, and medical sections of any regulatory documents.
  • Provides early insight on new publications, competitor trials and participate in any data dissemination activities to the organization.
  • Develops strategic relationships with Key Opinion Leaders, therapeutic area leaders, scientific societies, external influencers and internal stakeholders in support of above-listed activities. Interacts with KOLs to ensure BSC is understanding and navigating the IO field effectively.
  • Serves as the Medical liaison between physicians, field teams, and commercial functions in order to appropriately interpret field intelligence, physician needs, practice patterns and behaviors within the IO field.
  • Responsible for ongoing development and standardization of the external physician Medical Education training program ensuring alignment with the annual Medical Plan.
  • Creates a Medical Education and Symposia annual syllabus after identifying, assessing and analyzing unmet HCP training needs through needs assessment, trends identification and emergence of new and relevant clinical data on product(s) or within therapeutic area.
  • Creates a library of education materials aligned with the above to be used for physician-based training and implement updates at regular intervals to ensure timely data updates and version control. Ensure content is aligned with organizational strategic objectives and both commercial and clinical priorities.
  • Evolves innovative training resources to ensure various effective hands-on modalities across the Boston Scientific portfolio of IO therapies and technologies.
  • Identifies symposia opportunity, topic/content for presentation and HCPs for presentations ensuring cross-functional input into planning process. Execute on plan working with HCP faculty to further develop presentation content and cases, ensure on-label use, alignment with topic objectives, proper disclaimers and support the Legal, Regulatory, and Medical review processes.
  • Conducts post-education program evaluations of content and faculty, remaining aware of all changes that may impact training requirements, and implement changes/improvements to training protocols and materials accordingly.
  • Maintains communication cadence with program faculty and cross functional areas regarding Medical Education and Symposia activities ie: Field Sales and Field Medical, Marketing, Clinical.
  • Leads communication of contracting needs with Medical Education Specialist to ensure proper lead-time and execution of speaker & trainer agreements, prior to services performed.
  • Ensures training program logistics are met in collaboration with Field Medical and Clinical personnel. Attend and manage programs on-site to ensure successful execution on event day.
  • Effectively executes activities of major significance to the organization and represents the organizational unit as prime internal and external contact on project-related operations or contracts.

Required qualifications:
  • Degree in the Life Sciences required, advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years industry experience preferably within the Medical Device or Pharmaceutical Industry
  • Therapeutic area experience with medical devices and in oncology is mandatory
  • Proven success within the Medical Affairs and/or Clinical Research functions including implementation of medical strategic plans and medical education initiatives
  • Excellent analytical, verbal, written and presentation skills
  • Proven success creating and maintaining relationships with HCPs
  • Knowledge and understanding of global healthcare standards
  • Strong medical/scientific writing skills
  • Good understanding of regulatory guidelines and Good Clinical Practices

Preferred qualifications:
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and product responsibilities and work independently
  • Ability to work effectively with others in a matrix environment
  • Ability to develop strategic solutions to unique, significant and extremely complex business issues
  • Demonstration of a primary commitment to patient safety and product quality by maintaining compliance to the Quality Policy and all other documented Boston Scientific quality processes and procedures.
  • Ability to travel primarily within North America, as needed
