Job Description
- Spearhead Value Engineering projects from idea to commercialization.
- Interpretate and apply ASTM and ICC Specifications to ensure compliance with both internal and external regulations and protocols.
- Work closely with manufacturing engineering, product design, production to improve the material utilization in the manufacturing process.
- Collaborate with product management, benchmark competitors’ products, apply Value Engineering methodology and propose alternative design ideas.
- Actively participate in funnel building activities.
- Develop design concept, create detail design drawings, build prototypes and verify the change in house and with key customers.
- Write test plan and design/build test equipment as needed.
- Conduct FEA on new and existing products, interpretate the results and provide guidance for product design improvement.
- Conduct validate test, in lab, at production floor and installation site.
- Collect and analyze test data, draw conclusions, and write test report.
- Utilize Daily Management tools to track and report project progress.
- Integrate GD&T principles into engineering drawings and maintain accurate records of design change.
- Maintain and update BOM and validation documents.
- Interface with supplier to resolve DFM issue and ensure the supplier quality intact during the change process.
- Collaborate with cross functional team for smooth project execution and implementation.
- Identify and escalate opportunities for improvement of cost productivity to management.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years of experience, or Master’s degree with 2+ years of experience.
- Experience with Value Engineering in product design update for cost reduction.
- Proficient with 2D drawing, 3D modeling (SolidWorks preferred), PDM, GD&T, tolerance stack up, DFMEA etc. design tools.
- Design experience with sheet metal fabrication, plastic molding, casting etc part design and mechanism design.
- FEA modeling and analysis experience, as well as applying hand calculations/handbook methods where appropriate.
- Strong understanding of failure mode and analysis, how to set up analysis and test methods to ensure failure modes are clearly understood and margin to failure is quantified.
- Be comfortable developing test procedure and conducting functional testing, interpretate the results, and correlate with product performance.
