Minimum Requirements for Project Level Mechanical Engineers / Mechanical Engineer II
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited Engineering program
- Current Commonwealth of Virginia Professional Engineering (PE) license Required (or able to secure through reciprocity within 30 days of hire)
- United States Citizenship Required
- Understanding and knowledge of current applicable codes
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Strong knowledge of AutoCAD
- Working knowledge of Revit/BIM
- Strong knowledge of MS Office
- Reports daily to HQ office, Williamsburg, VA (Hybrid Remote/Office schedule opportunities after first 90 days of employment for licensed professionals)
Preference will be given to Candidates demonstrating:
- 2+ years of professional experience in facilities consulting engineering HVAC design
- 3D Modeling experience
- Project Management experience
- Proposal preparation (business development) experience
What You will Do - This is an experienced position involved in non-routine and complex assignments. The Mechanical Engineer II works with the Project Manager(s) to develop design concepts which are incorporated into the final product by Staff Designers and Engineers. In this role, you will need to be comfortable working both as a technical designer and also as a project manager assigned to oversee specific jobs from beginning to end.
The ability to proactively use available resources such as books, industry publications, experienced colleagues, and review of past projects is essential to success in this position.
Typical Duties
- Producing sketches and system schematics for complicated design tasks
- Preparing and delegating preliminary task lists
- Incorporating design concepts from schematic design into design development
- Applying professional stamp to Mechanical / Plumbing drawings and project documentation
- Coordinating design clearances
- Selecting details
- Documenting existing conditions
- Troubleshooting of existing installations and designs
- Editing construction specification sections
- Attending construction meetings and producing site observation reports (occasional local travel required)
- Producing final punch lists
- Researching non-routine code issues
- Preparing addendums and change orders
- Preparing opinions of probable cost for materials and systems and reviewing contractor cost estimates
- Value engineering
- Putting own work through the quality control review process
- Reviewing technical work of others
- Responding to comments from review authorities
