SUMMARY
Perform complex activities relating to the design, testing and evaluation of mechanical and electro-mechanical devices or systems. Performs product development activities including CAD layout, interpretation and implementation of specifications and documentation. Provide existing product line support in design activities and/or modification of hardware.
SCOPE
Works with little supervision on day-to-day work as member of an integrated Mechanical Engineering team. Works on problems of moderate to diverse scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. Uses professional concepts and industry practices; applies company policies and procedures to resolve a wide range of issues. Builds stable working relationships internally.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Solve mechanical problems on existing products and drives the manufacturing integration of new products by working in conjunction with Production and outside vendors as need arises.
- Participate in the conceptual design of packaging for new products in conjunction with the senior mechanical lead and Project Engineer.
- Estimate time and personnel requirements.
- Create and monitor scheduling requirements for new projects.
- Thermal and structural analysis of electronic models.
- Works with sustaining engineering in support of existing products.
- Creation of product structure, bills of material, and assembly documents.
- Prototyping and testing of new designs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Adhere to Datron World Communications and Cyberlux Quality Management System.
- Adhere to all DWC and CYBL policies and procedures including work rules, safety standards and departmental operating procedures.
The following are guidelines that may be used as a reference of knowledge, skills, and/or ability to perform this job.
- BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering with 5 to 15 years of experience in electronic package design/ mechanical enclosure design for desktop, manpack, and handheld products.
- Working knowledge of machinery and materials used in the fabrication of electronic packages and/or printed circuit boards.
- Develop, design, and implement mechanical solutions including but not limited to enclosures and mechanisms while managing constraints in space, time, cost, manufacturing, structural integrity, and thermal loads.
- Direct and coordinate Mechanical Engineering and manufacturing services as required.
- Develop project documentation including specifications, 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, schedules, and presentations to capture and communicate the mechanical design to achieve the defined project goals.
- Effective communication skills: interpersonal, written and verbal.
- 5%+ Travel to various vendors (Subjective: Based on the Role)
Mandatory Skills
- Expertise in electronic packaging design, mechanical design development of communications equipment and related electromechanical products
- Hands-on experience in design, development and launch of communications equipment and related Electromechanical Products
- Rapid prototyping for early evaluation of design concepts.
- Expertise in SolidWorks, 3D models and 2D drawings, AutoCAD, GD&T, ASME/ANSI standards.
- Experience in in statistical tolerance analysis
- Plan, prepare and perform mechanical tests, e.g., stress, thermal, shock, vibration, hardness, cycle, impact, etc., leveraging reliability teams where appropriate.
- Experience in working with in-house factory and 3rd parties for manufacturing activities
JOB COMPLEXITY
Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Networks with senior internal and external personnel in own area of expertise.
Salary Range: $85,000 - $98,000 per year
