POSITION SUMMARY

As the Mechanical Engineer with Liberty Plastics Inc., you will be responsible for performing the plant engineering duties. You will design, develop, test, and/or supervise the manufacturing and installation of mechanical equipment, components, or systems to support business initiatives. Additionally, you will collect and analyze pertinent data and provide comprehensive documentation where applicable. The Manufacturing Engineer works on multiple projects requiring innovative and original solutions.

This full-time position reports directly to the General Manager and is located at Liberty Plastics in Baldwyn, MS.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Dedication to ensuring a safe work environment. Ensure that all projects receive adequate hazard analysis prior to project start and ensure that project safety remains paramount for project duration.
  • Consults with other engineers, vendors, customers, other employees, contractors to discuss existing and potential engineering projects and/or assigned tasks.
  • Directs and coordinates manufacturing, construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities ensuring compliance and specifications, codes, and plant requirements.
  • Serves as liaison with external vendors, customers, and engineering firms.
  • Collaborate in the product development process.
  • Plan and implement research methodology and procedures to apply mechanical principles to engineering projects.
  • Develop internal engineering proposals recognizing all relevant internal and supplier process limitations, capabilities, and requirements.
  • Develop budgets, estimate labor, material, and construction costs for projects.
  • Develops and monitors continuous improvement plans for the plant and issues monthly reports.
  • Assist in the development and execution of the plant’s capital projects program for new equipment and major repairs.
  • Prepare specifications for purchase of materials and equipment. 
  • Oversees projects to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Prepare and study technical drawings, specifications of mechanical systems to ensure installations and operations conform to specified standards.
  • Ensure the feasibility of proposed new product designs, and redesigns of existing products relative to constraints of cost, schedule, function, aesthetics, fit, finish, and manufacturing capability.
  • Analyze supplier-provided engineering proposals, process requirements, and related technical data pertaining to the product design.
  • Analyze cost saving opportunities and provide solutions for component, material, and design changes.
  • Collaborate in development of requirements-driven specifications for material, secondary processing, fit, finish, and performance of all product components.
  • Utilize 3-D CAD to prepare and update plant layouts, process flows, and modify existing equipment.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to help troubleshoot product design issues or defects by providing recommendations and alternative approaches to the overall design, engineering, manufacturing, packaging of the product.
  • Research new manufacturing methods/equipment.
  • Organize and maintain existing engineering records and ensure all drawings are kept up to date.
  • Procure equipment and oversee installation.
  • Ensure manufacturing systems adhere to applicable industry and business standards.
  • Learn JDEdwards and serve as the super user for JDEdwards (WO’s, PM’s, Inventory, BOM’s, and spare parts)
  • Monitor energy usage and create and distribute monthly usage reports.
  • Maintain specified records, files, and documentation.
  • Responsible for daily engagement with production concerns and problems. Provides daily Continuous Improvement support.
  • Assists teams and employees with troubleshooting issues and problems.
  • Continual evaluation and optimization of equipment and processes to ensure both efficiency and quality.
  • Data collection, interpretation and report writing.
  • Commissioning, qualification, and training associated with new process equipment.
  • Responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing chemical processes.
  • Participates in safety and operational risk assessments.
  • Travel to various locations if needed.
  • Assist the LDI Engineering and Facilities team as directed.
  • Must be flexible in hours to support facility that runs 24 hours a day.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or Industrial Engineering
  • 2 - 4 Years of previous related experience
  • Project management skills
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) and SolidWorks. Experience with JD Edwards (JDE) preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge and proficiency of AutoCAD and SolidWorks software.
  • Understanding and experience using Lean Six Sigma tools.
  • Ability to plan, schedule, coordinate, and problem solve effectively.
  • Self-directed with the ability to manage one’s time accordingly to get projects completed on time (results driven).
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and works effectively in a team environment.
  • Has excellent communication skills, organizational skills, and presentation skills.

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Plastics manufacturing process knowledge preferred.
  • Basic logic/programming knowledge
  • Able to excel with minimum supervision and work independently (self-driven).
  • Strong team leadership and group dynamics skills; cross-functional team building skills.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving practices/skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain good relationships, both internally and externally.
