PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Mechanical Designer position will create designs and technical drawings for various systems that will be used in automation projects. This role will use computer modeling and drafting to assist in designing various components of manufacturing cells as directed by the Engineering Manager and engineering team.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Creates 2-D and 3-D models and drawings that meet the specified criteria.
  • Provides drawing documentation and design support as related to projects assigned.
  • Delivers complete and accurate designs within allotted time frames.
  • Calculates and understands factors such as tolerance, dimensions, and various forms of analysis.
  • Formulates and creates design information in a clear, informative, and concise manner with the project manager, engineering team, and clients.
  • Creates designs using company procedure while adhering to the company and client standards.
  • Presents design to the Engineering manager and engineering team.
  • Provides support with the building and installation of various designs.
  • Finalizes and provides accurate designs that will be used by the production team.
  • Creates clear assembly and manufacturing drawings to be used for procurement and the production teams.
  • Supports production and assembly teams during build process.
  • Knows and follows all safety rules, such as safe work practices and standard operating procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Associate’s Degree in mechanical design or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • or 2 years of equivalent experience.
  • 1 year of mechanical design experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1-3 years mechanical design experience.
  • Solidworks experience preferred.
  • Experience with automation or manufacturing related design.
  • Knowledge of automation and manufacturing processes and designs.

GENERAL SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working with various design software.
  • Relevant experience with intricate mechanical designs.
  • Ability to gauge the time and effort associated with completion of designs and tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and execute designs according to engineering specifications.
  • Experience working to create designs and drawings that meet multiple criteria, specifications, and standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications such as Microsoft SharePoint, Excel, Teams, etc.
  • Self-motivated and flexible attitude.
  • Strong computer and mathematical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet assigned deadlines.
  • Exceptional communication skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Able to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to use close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color determination, and adjustment of focus.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk and hear.
  • Occasionally required to bend, twist, climb, kneel and balance.
  • Occasionally required to use hands to grasp, reach and operate objects, tools or controls.
  • Occasional exposure to a production environment.
  • Must comply with any safety or PPE requirements.

Travel is required approximately 5% of the job.

Travel is anticipated for this position, typically within a 400-mile radius of the metropolitan Milwaukee area. Occasional overnight travel may be necessary. Some occasional local day travel may be necessary.
