Mechanical Design Engineer - Sheet Metal Electrical Enclosures
Location: Elmhurst, IL
Duration: Permanent - Full-Time
Due to accelerating growth, our client, an industry-leading Electrical Equipment Manufacturer in Elmhurst, IL, is looking to add a Mechanical Design Engineer to their team.
This Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for creating, updating, and releasing mechanical drawing packages for assigned projects in compliance with customer and industry specifications.
Responsibilities
- Develop and update mechanical approval drawings, based on design reviews and customer comments, for assigned projects.
- Develop and release mechanical manufacturing drawings inclusive of Sheet Metal fabrication details (flat patterns and bend profiles) and mechanical bills of materials to production and purchasing.
- Ensure drawings are released in time to support the production build schedule.
- Support manufacturing welding and assembly activities as needed.
- Support company-wide engineering initiatives to maintain a best-in-class level of service.
- Maintain good working relationships with peers and other company departments across all locations.
- Participate, as required, in providing technical support to sales and company distributors in support of the company's quality customer service effort.
- Support and actively contribute to the company's quality improvement initiatives.
- Stay abreast of technical product developments through literature reviews and industry developments.
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution with 3 to 5 years of experience in Sheet Metal Electrical Enclosure design and fabrication, OR
- 2 years associate degree in mechanical engineering technology with 5 to 7 years experience in Sheet Metal Electrical Enclosure design and fabrication.
- Proficient in AutoCAD (knowledge of Inventor or similar software a plus).
- Proficient in MS Office suite applications.
- Ability to prioritize jobs and make critical decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication to communicate with internal and external customers.
- Ability to use reasoning and logic to identify alternative solutions or to adapt and apply past solutions to solve new problems.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision or collaboratively within a small team environment.
- Ability to read technical drawings, project specifications, and other technical literature and communicate appropriate information to others.
Experience
- Design Sheet Metal enclosures for electrical equipment according to ANSE/NEMA standards for both indoor and outdoor installations.
- Sizing and bracing calculations for copper busbar systems to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
- Development of assemblies, weldments, and sub-assembly drawings and parts details with an associated indented bill of material(s) for circuit breaker, interrupter/disconnect switch, and cable support mounting details.
- Preparation of equipment plan, elevation, side and cross-section views, and lifting details.
- Preparation of component general arrangement drawings based on electrical bill of material.
