Job Description
Job Summary:
The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the Mechanical Design of standard and custom design of CGI, Inc. products, and for developing solutions to designs and production related problems, such as, materials, processes, and tooling. He or she supports new development programs, sales and marketing. Proficient in parametric modeling software, preferably SolidWorks.
Functions:
Design and development of complete products, new and improved; components, specifications, test equipment, tooling and fixturing with layout, assembly and detail drawings in SolidWorks as required.
Provides information when required for cost estimating, such as blank layouts and processing sketches.
Perform and record engineering calculations regarding fit, form and function.
Perform and evaluate motion systems (geared or electromechanical assemblies) using appropriate software including tolerance stacks and material selection.
Testing of product and evaluate for reliability.
Develop and perform testing processes for products and its uses.
Change redlined drawings and maintain engineering masters, kits, drawing data base, etc.
Makes layouts and/or isometric illustrations required for sales aids.
Technical writing, including reports, procedures and product instructions / information.
Visit customers if necessary when working on special projects.
Participate in Trade Shows as needed.
Assists in I.S.O. 9001, M.R.B. and Process Improvement Team meetings and functions.
Assists in the follow-up of custom design with outside reps., distributors, and customers.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Minimum B.S. in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent related experience
Minimum of 3 years experience as a Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineer or similar role including with Mechanical Design.
Familiarity with ISO 9001, ISO 13485 and AS9100.
Strong drafting skills using solid modeling software programs, Solidworks experience desirable
Must be able to move from concept to finished design, including material selection, layouts, tolerance evaluations and detailed drawings.
Has initiative and able to work effectively with little direction and/or few guidelines.
Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing at all levels within the organization as well as with external customers and suppliers.
Knowledgeable concerning mechanical principles.
Experience in gear design, stress analysis and material science are a plus along with experience with gear analysis software.
ElectroMechanical Design experience is desirable.
Knowledge of machining practices is a plus.
