Director Product Development, MCS
WHAT YOU'LL DO
We are recruiting for a Senior Director in R&D to join our team in Pleasanton, CA. The Senior Director R&D Provides leadership, vision and direction of a critical R&D development function and/or R&D program. This leadership role will be responsible for electronic, mechanical and system design of medical device and equipment functions; collaborate across the division to optimize products and development programs strategy and budgets; responsible for effective people leadership, up to R&D Director level staff. Conduct high level program management coordination and strategic decision ownership for a wide range of Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) products and all related technology development, including shaping the leading-edge technology roadmap; also provide management guidance for the respective organizations to ensure market leading technology and Product Development. Establish product segment strategies in concert with cross functional senior management. Ensure that the Product teams have clear strategic direction.

- Lead and shape the technology roadmap and build/develop the relevant technical competence in the R&D teams to deliver the business product roadmap and support the product life cycle management.
- Builds strategic partnerships to further departmental and organizational objectives.
- Interacts internally and externally with executive level management, outside regulatory agencies, customers, vendors and suppliers.
- Coordinates across functional areas, business units, and/or geographies to achieve company or area goals.
- Utilizes technical/professional knowledge and skills to establish, interpret and execute company policies in a major segment of the company.
- Monitors and ensures compliance with company policies and procedures (e.g. compliance with FDA, BSI, EEO regulations, etc.).
- Makes and executes operational decisions with a strategic perspective.
- Directs and controls the activities and budget of one or more functional areas, divisions, product groups and/or operations.
- Leads assigned departments by developing, communicating, and building consensus for goals and programs that support division, business unit and company objectives.
- Creates mid- to long-range plans to carry out objectives established by top management; develops and calculates a budget for one or more departments to meet organizational goals; forecasts future departmental or group needs including human and material resources and capital expenditures; determines and establishes organizational structure and supervisory relationships subject to top management approval.
- Typically makes decisions that translate programs established by top management into operational plans and schedules; work is performed without appreciable direction; consequences of erroneous decisions or recommendations would normally result in failure to achieve goals critical to the major objectives of the organization and would seriously affect the financial, employment, or public relations position of the company.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU'LL BRING
Required
- Master's degree in related field. Ph.D. degree highly preferred.
- Minimum of 12 years of related work experience and 10+ years of managerial role. Successful medical device class III NPI launch is a plus.
- Monitors progress of departments or units toward divisional and company goals; monitors all costs associated with assigned organizational unit; monitors company-wide indicators such as market share and profitability; monitors industry trends and external environment in areas relevant to the assigned organizational unit.
- Will perform this job in a quality system environment. Failure to adequately perform tasks can result in noncompliance with governmental regulations.
- Develops and/or identifies new work processes that will have broad applicability throughout the company; contributes ideas for improving work processes and achieving organizational goals; investigates and solves problems that impact work processes and personnel in multiple units or departments; develops and communicates a vision for a major segment of the organization.
The base pay for this position is
$186,300.00 - $372,700.00
In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
