Codexis, a biotechnology company based in Redwood City, CA, is looking to hire a Director, Strategic Product Management!
 Codexis is a leading enzyme engineering company leveraging its proprietary CodeEvolver® technology platform to discover, develop and enhance novel, high-performance enzymes and other classes of proteins. Codexis enzymes solve for real-world challenges associated with small molecule pharmaceuticals manufacturing and nucleic acid synthesis. The Company is currently developing its proprietary ECO Synthesis™ platform to enable the scaled manufacture of RNAi therapeutics through an enzymatic route. Codexis enzymes can drive improvements, such as higher yields, reduced energy usage and waste generation, improve efficiency in manufacturing and greater sensitivity in genomic and diagnostic applications.

About the Opportunity: The Director, Strategic Product Management is a part of the Corporate Development and Portfolio Strategy department and responsible for working with commercial and research leaders to answer strategic questions and inform product portfolio investment decisions to ensure the achievement of Codexis’ corporate goals. This role will partner with the ECO Synthesis™ technology, commercial, research, and operations teams to develop and refine opportunities for product portfolio development to position Codexis for long-term growth in Nucleic Acid Therapeutics. This position plays a central role in the competitive positioning of Codexis in the chosen end-markets and requires an in-depth understanding of the broader market, technology, competitive, and IP landscapes of the Nucleic Acid Therapeutics market and will be based in Redwood City. If any of the below describes you, we would love to meet you!

In this role you will be responsible for:
  • Work with senior leadership and a cross-functional team to define, build, and shape the product portfolio roadmap across the company’s core growth area of Nucleic Acid Therapeutics.
  • Work with a cross-functional team to support identification of opportunities for growth via market expansion and product portfolio development, including market landscape assessments for key target areas.
  • Develop business cases for investments and present to senior leadership.
  • Lead the sourcing and translation of market and customer VOC into user and product requirements in close collaboration with Commercial, Program Management, R&D, and Operations teams to ensure appropriate development scope of new products.
  • Champion successful launches through requirements, development, and commercialization ensuring the ultimate customer and financial success of new product launches in alignment with business cases.
  • Maintain close relationships with field organization (e.g., sales and technical support) through training and active participation in the sales process, including customer visits, participating with pricing tactics, and customer support.
  • Be a key opinion leader (KOL) for the product line, represent Codexis externally at conferences and tradeshows, and be able to effectively communicate product strategy and tactics to the market.
  • Partner with Program Management for the maintenance and monitoring of Key Performance Indicators to measure success and progress of product development programs. 

The essential requirements of the job include:
  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in scientific discipline. MBA or related advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of genomics/pharmaceutical/medical industry experience and/or related consulting experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Nucleic Acid Therapeutics.
  • Understanding of pharma and biotech market, development cycles and value creation strategies, sales and marketing requirements, and key commercial processes.
  • Direct experience in new product planning and phased/gated Product Management processes and tools.

Additional experience that would be valuable for this role includes:
  • Experience providing products and services for clinical drug development 
  • Experience with GMP manufacturing environments

CODEXIS PAY TRANSPARENCY: The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in Redwood City is $195,000 to $245,000. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Codexis is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states​.
