Through this program, our interns have had the opportunity to learn and grow in various aspects of the media industry. Working alongside industry veterans, local leaders, and seasoned staffers, the interns were guided and mentored every step of the way. They tackled real-world projects that challenged them to think critically, solve problems, and make a tangible difference within our organization and the communities we serve.

Key Features of the Program
This opportunity is available to freshmen and sophomores who are interested in pursuing careers in any aspect of our business - including journalism, multimedia, digital design, marketing, business, human resources, product innovation, finance, and/or computer science.
Four recipients will each participate in a ten-week full-time internship. Internships will start at $15 per hour.
Recipients must agree to be available for the internship for three consecutive summers as well as commit to working for McClatchy one full year upon graduation. Every effort will be made to provide the internship and job in the area of interest to the student.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above (on a 4.0 scale) verified by an unofficial transcript. (Applicants can submit transcripts after applying by emailing the transcript to [email protected].)
We seek individuals who demonstrate all-around achievement.
Applicants must be current freshmen or sophomores of an accredited Historically Black College and University (HBCUs).
In selecting candidates, we use three criteria: a demonstrated interest in working in the media industry; good academic standing achievement; and volunteer/community involvement and/or extracurricular school activities.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is between $15.00 and $15.50 per hour. Individual base pay may vary within that range depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, relevant education, department equity, training, geography and local wage and hours laws.
