Position Responsibilities
The incumbent is expected to perform the following functions that the company has determined are essential to this position:
- Conduct regular evaluation and analysis of typical automotive materials like rigid composite thermoplastics, thermosetting coatings and encapsulants, elastomerized sealing materials, occasional metallographic characterization, paints, tapes, adhesives, and foams.
- Research new and existing material technology related to automotive lightweighting, material and assembly process cost reduction, and drivetrain electrification.
- Provide general material engineering consultations and conduct failure investigations to support product design engineers, quality assurance team members, and Aisin manufacturing facilities located throughout North America.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Analytical lab safety and lab equipment experience; FTIR, TGA, DSC, TMA, GC-MS, FE-SEM, and microscopy.
- Organizational skills related to design of experiments, material test planning, and engineering project management.
- Ability to receive assigned tasks, research the objective, develop a solution path, follow through to the achievement of all program goals set fourth, and to effectively communicate these achievements to upper management while remaining on schedule and within budget.
- Familiarity with MS Office suite; Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Teams, Edge
Beneficial Skills and Experience
- Materials Engineer / M&P Engineer within the automotive or aerospace industry
- Body & EV Powertrain product development history
- QC Lab or Materials Lab background
Education/Training/Certifications
- MS/BS in Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Chemistry or other related fields of study
- Related engineering internship experience with good references
- 0-2 years material engineering work experience
Work Environment Requirements
- Must be able to operate a personal computer, telephone and other office equipment.
- Must perform job duties onsite, except those duties that are customarily or by their nature performed offsite (for example, offsite customer visits).
- Must be able to work effectively in a fast paced environment where constructive criticism is encouraged.
- Must be able to work on multiple assignments at once, and complete assignments within deadline and budget (if applicable) with satisfactory quality.
- Must be able to operate as an effective team member.
- Must be committed to a high standard of safety, and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all company safety policies.
Attendance/Work Hour Requirements
- Must maintain an acceptable attendance record.
- Must be willing and available to work such weekends and holidays as necessary and desirable to meet business needs.
Travel Requirements
- Approximately 20 %
- Must be willing and available to travel to such locations and with such frequency as is necessary and desirable to meet business needs.
