Job description

POSITION: Assistant Coach

EMPLOYMENT PERIOD: As Set by the Board of Trustees

Hours As Set by the Board of Trustees

SALARY: As Set by the Board of School Trustees

QUALIFICATIONS:Required: High School Diploma or GED. Preferred: Successful experience in the sport.

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Athletic Director

EVALUATED BY: Athletic Director


SUMMARY

Responsible for the athletic program during the season established by IHSAA or the middle school or elementary school guidelines or rules.


Essential Responsibilities
Other duties may be assigned

General Performance

a. Shows loyalty to the head coach and to the system.

b. Takes care of all equipment.

c. Demonstrates knowledge of the sport.

d. Promotes a rapport between coach and players.

e. Has a willingness to spend the time necessary to develop the program.

f. Has the ability to motivate players.

g. Supervises bus trips, the locker room, and the training room.

h. Accepts duties and follows the rules given by the head coach.

i. Is appropriately dressed for practices and games.

j. Is prompt in meeting the team for practices and games.

k. Displays care and cooperation in the use of facilities.

l. Is continuously striving for self-improvement. This may be demonstrated in a number of ways including: reading books about coaching the sport, observing videos about coaching the sport, attending coaching clinics, rules clinics, viewing webinars, or involvement in coaches’ organizations.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

LANGUAGE SKILLS: The ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. The ability to write routine reports and correspondence. The ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, teachers, students, parents, and the general public.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
: The ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. The ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


REASONING ABILITY:
The ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. The ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
The ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community. The ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. The ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and YCS School Board policies.

Occasionally, the position requires the employee to work irregular or extended hours, direct responsibility for the safety, well-being or work output of other people, and meet multiple demands from several people.
