The Marketing Generalist at Donaldson Capital Management supports a comprehensive communications program for various business units, including Advisory, Retirement Plan Services, Financial Planning, Foundations, and Institutional. They work in the Communications team to deliver a robust communications program that includes written, visual, and digital messaging and branding. In addition to external marketing efforts, the Marketing Generalist works with the Director of Communications to execute internal communications to support company culture and strategic initiatives.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Content Creation
- Collaborate with internal departments and vendor partners to write, edit, and proof marketing content
- Work closely with the compliance department to ensure communications reflect the most recent guidance
- Perform market analysis, including surveys, research, and interviews with clients, colleagues, and the public as needed
- Use data/analytics to identify the most impactful and engaged communications that clients and prospective clients find valuable
- Analyze data to determine how effective a communication was and adjust accordingly
- Research to support the value and depth of communication content
- Develop communications and materials to support the needs of specific audiences
- Create basic designs and apply changes for print and digital marketing materials and internal communications (i.e., social media content, presentations, advertisements, print materials, and more)
Communications Distribution
- Distribute internal and external communications through various channels (i.e., social media, newsletter, email, client and prospective client presentations, website, video, brochures, letters, and more)
- Export distribution lists from internal CRM and portfolio software, filter & sort as needed for client communications
- Research and recommend publications for partnership and advertising opportunities that reach relevant markets and target audiences
- Research topics to provide valuable and accurate content for Donaldson clients
- Increase engagement in social media and video platforms
- Ensure regular web content updates are performed and check content for accuracy and consistency
- Track relevant metrics using analytics tools and report on the effectiveness of communications
Support the Communications Team
- Assist in the development of effective corporate communication strategies
- Facilitate the use of a shared editorial calendar and a shared project planner for the Communications team
- Work with the Director of Communications to prioritize strategic initiatives and client needs
- Build relationships with vendor partners to support communications projects
- Maintain the Brand Style Guide for consistency in written communications and editing
- Keep a record of all print and digital materials and compliance approvals
- Ongoing development of press lists and media relationships in relevant markets
- Align communications plans internally and externally so communications are delivered to the right people at the right time
Support Internal Team Members
- Manage marketing materials for company events such as conferences, webinars, and trade shows.
- Maintain and organize materials, keeping all content current and available for team members and audit/compliance purposes.
- Work with the Director of Communications to set best practices for displaying materials in all Donaldson office lobbies and advise offices on standards.
- Work with team members (in-person and remote) to provide branding, creative, and technical business communication support.
- Collaborate on cross-functional teams on communications-related projects
- Serve as a point of contact for proofreading and editing expertise for all team members (spelling, punctuation, grammar, typographical errors)
- Within one year of learning the Donaldson voice and editing style, provide high-value support for all team members (content direction, length of communication, simplifying language, and brand voice)
- Within one year of learning the Donaldson voice and editing style, provide training for all team members on business writing skills and how to professionally edit communications
REQUIREMENTS
Experience and Education:
- A bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, English, PR, or a related field. Equivalent work-related experience will be considered.
- Ideally, 4+ years of experience in marketing. Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Financial industry experience is a plus.
- Experience in one or more of the following: content creation, email marketing, traditional marketing, social media marketing, website management, data analytics, lead generation/nurturing and copywriting/editing
Skills and Knowledge:
- Strong copywriting skills are required and will be assessed in the interview process.
- Basic design experience is preferable. Examples of design of business materials will be requested. Expert graphic design is not necessary.
- Candidates should highlight any experience in the following programs: Hubspot Marketing Hub, Hootsuite, WordPress, Adobe Illustrator, Canva, and SharePoint).
- Experience with social media marketing on platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
- Familiarity with analytics tools and reporting in email reporting, Google Analytics, social media marketing, keyword research, and/or SEO. In-depth expertise is not required.
- Proficiency in MS Excel.
- Knowledge of Investment Advisory (SEC & FINRA) Rules and Regulations is a plus.

We have a robust compensation model. Fixed compensation includes a base salary and certification-designation-degree pay. Variable pay includes a revenue pool program, and cash incentives. All advisory teams receive a % of managed AUM billing.
