Position Title:Marketing and Communications Specialist

General Function

The Michigan SBDC is hiring a Marketing and Communications Specialist to support our internal and external marketing communication efforts to increase brand awareness. The Marketing and Communications Specialist will be responsible for the department's design of materials (print, digital, and web) and social media execution.

Required Qualifications and Education:

  • Knowledge of design principles associated with specific media types
  • Demonstrated proficiency with design tools (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Canva)
  • Demonstrated experience with website design and management (e.g., WordPress)
  • Demonstrated experience designing while adhering to brand standards
  • Experience in developing and implementing social media strategies and tactics focused on increasing engagement (e.g., Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter, Hootsuite)
  • Experience with email marketing platforms (e.g., Constant Contact)
  • Experience writing and editing copy for multiple platforms (social media, blogs, press releases, website content, etc.)
  • Minimum 2+ years of relevant work experience

Preferred Qualifications and Education: 

  • Knowledge of the small business or economic development environment
  • Familiarity with a CRM (Salesforce)
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
  • Keen attention to detail

Responsibilities - Essential Functions: 

Design

  • Concept, layout, and execute digital and printed annual, regional, and district reports
  • Design digital and printed flyers, brochures, and other collateral
  • Develop presentations for both external and internal audiences
  • Develop advertising across mediums and channels

Social Media

  • Design and write highly engaging posts for SBDC's social media platforms, in alignment with the marketing strategy
  • Monitor social media analytics
  • Monitor social media pages and respond to queries
  • Provide social media assets and guidelines to the SBDC network to encourage social sharing
  • Implement paid ad strategy in alignment with marketing initiatives

Web/email marketing

  • Design web and email marketing templates
  • Create and update web content, pages, and forms
  • Write and post client success stories and blogs
  • Support SEO execution
  • Lay out email newsletter content
  • Manage email lists

Salary:  $50,000 - $55,000

This position is part of the Michigan SBDC Lead Center team, located at GVSU's Seidman College of Business in Grand Rapids.
