Petco is a category-defining health and wellness company focused on improving the lives of pets, pet parents and Petco partners. We are 29,000 strong, working together across 1,500+ pet care centers, 250+ Vetco Total Care hospitals, hundreds of preventive care clinics, eight distribution centers and two support centers.
The Market General Manager (Regional Manager) is responsible for creating a culture within each store in their market that enables Petco’s vision of “Healthier Pets. Happier People. Better World.” They are responsible for developing a high-performing team that consistently delivers a great partner and guest experience, top-line sales growth, expense control, and profit growth while focusing on the welfare, health, and proper care of all animals. This position requires a passion for pets and people, focus on process excellence, a drive for results, and the ability to lead and influence. This MGM role oversees 5 districts with 100+ store locations in Northern California, Oregon, and Washington.

Responsibilities:

  • Build a diverse team across their market that embodies the Petco brand, reflects the communities they serve and delivers exceptional service and drives guest loyalty.
  • Create a culture across all stores they support where leaders; attract, hire, and retain a diverse team of top talent.
  • Train, coach, and develop leaders in a way that positions field partners to execute in all areas and functions required to run the stores and districts efficiently and to Petco standards, including the effective rollout of selling models.
  • Create an environment that inspires and encourages the growth and engagement of partners across all levels in their market.
  • Promote a positive culture of teamwork by inspiring leaders and encouraging them to work alongside the leadership team, establishing priorities, and providing clear direction.
  • Ensure quick and courteous service to all PETCO guest through coaching leaders and validating the execution of company strategies that solve for the guest’s needs and by sharing product knowledge with leaders and partners to enable them to suggest the appropriate solution to meet the customer’s needs.
  • Responsible for the proper execution of all leader and partner performance management in their market.
  • Demonstrate and support a continuous improvement and growth mindset.
  • Meet or exceed goals within their market to include total store sales and services, expense controls, profitability, and operational excellence.
  • Ensure the accurate scheduling, proper labor hours & payroll to maximize productivity, achieve sales & payroll goals, and complete workload.
  • Review and interpret financial and operational reporting regularly, including store visit and audit results as well as the execution of audits within each district.
  • Identify underperforming metrics and develop strategies that leverage Petco programs such as the INTENT selling model, tools, and resources to improve and grow the business.
  • Ensure leaders market their stores and products, oversee planning of in-store and community events, such as adoptions, school visits and other local promotions and animal-welfare events.
  • Ensures leaders execute programs that maintain proper health, appearance, welfare, and proper handling of all animals.
  • Teach, coach and support leaders to ensure merchandise is properly priced, displayed and stocked according to inventory levels appropriate for the store; make merchandising decisions with consideration of visual standards, special ad set-up and monthly ad planner guidelines, adjusting these as necessary to best implement in each individual store.
  • Ensure leaders across their market complete and submit accounting, inventory management and payroll paperwork in a timely manner; maintain expenses within budgeted levels.
  • Maintains a high level of expectations that results in each store’s appearance adhering to Petco brand standards and safety procedures.
  • Protect Petco pets & merchandise and minimize loss by ensuring all stores’ standards and operating procedures are met, including workplace safety, inventory control, and loss prevention within all store locations they support.
  • Ensures all stores are opened/closed in accordance with policies and procedures, especially those relating to safety and security.
  • Responsible for all leaders maintaining their store’s professional image, appearance and cleanliness
