Job Description
Essential Functions: Captain and operator of auto and passenger ferry vessel not to exceed 100gt.
Responsibilities:
- Must safely navigate inland waters in a highly trafficked vessel convergence area.
- Supervision and Safety of passengers, Deckhands, Mechanics and maintenance personnel on board the vessel.
- Responsible for the response to any emergency condition that occurs while in transit or moored.
- Report vessel malfunctions, and any unsafe conditions to port captains immediately.
- First line supervisor of Deckhands that are assigned to the vessel.
- Fill out ships log; keep an ongoing log of trips, vehicles, and any events.
- Comply with all Fisher Island standards (i.e., grooming, conduct, policies and procedures).
- Be familiar with both company and departments policies and procedures, rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of all safety systems and procedures.
- Must actively monitor marine VHF Radio Ch 16, 13 and company radio frequencies.
- Able to work any shift, including flexible schedules, nights, weekends and holidays.
- Perform other duties as requested by FICA management.
Education/ Skills/ Work Experience Required
- USCG and MRO licenses
- High school diploma
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
- Mechanical ability
- Excellent communication skills
- Neat appearance
- Ability to swim (Required)
- Speak, read and write English
