Manager, Total Rewards

As the Manager, Total Rewards, you will…make SmithFoods a rewarding and engaging place to work for all associates. You will help make associates daily lives better with benefits programs to keep them physically, mentally, and financially well. You will help associates feel rewarded by designing compensation structures that keep SmithFoods competitive in the talent market. You will work with external vendors and consultants in both compensation and benefits to ensure SmithFoods is positioned competitively and stays current on trends/changes in our industry.

Your Work Matters.

  • HR Business Partner
    1. Together with Head of People, partner with leaders across the Company to translate business opportunities into HR & Total Rewards solutions
    2. Work closely with leaders and associates to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity, and retention
  • Benefits Strategy and Administration
    1. Influence Company leadership on long-term decisions about benefits packages and enhancements to offer to provide cost effective and meaningful support to our associates based on research on industry best practices, internal satisfaction, vendor and plan value
    2. Provide excellent internal customer service to our associates through benefits onboarding, continued benefits education, and answering daily associate questions
    3. Administer day-to-day activities of benefits programs including, but not limited to: group medical, dental, and vision, 401(k) and pension retirement plans, accident and life insurance, short and long-term disability, worker’s compensation, leaves of absence, FMLA, health savings accounts and flexible spending accounts, unemployment, and other benefits.
    4. Coordinate all aspects of eligibility, enrollment, and explanation of benefits, plan features, changes and termination of benefits for all associates.
    5. Ensure SmithFoods is compliant with timely and accurate required filings for applicable government regulations
    6. Refine internal processes to find efficiencies and best ways to optimize administrative tasks through automation or external vendor
    7. Partner with plant HR leadership in Union negotiations
  • Compensation Strategy and Administration
    1. Design and implement an internal compensation strategy and framework across all businesses and functions, in collaboration with Company leadership and Talent team, assuring internal equity and external competitiveness
    2. Partner with talent team on job evaluations and market pricing of new and existing roles
    3. Regularly benchmark company compensation with surveys for external competitiveness
    4. Analyze internal performance and compensation data, together with Talent team, to educate Company leadership on compensation metrics
  • Internal Company Communications
    1. Together with the Head of People, develop new and enhance existing communication plans and resources that assist employees
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Duties of all Associates

  • Manage all company business according to the cultural objectives of the company (values and behaviors)
  • Understand and execute the principles of the company’s Operational Excellence program driving the right behaviors, standards and continuous improvement across all operating entities
  • Participate in cross-functional teams as required to advance the business interests of the company
  • Compliance with all company and regulatory policies/guidelines relating to associate safety, food safety and food quality

Travel

  • Travel less than 10% of the time

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and three years of HR generalist, benefits, leaves, and/or Total Rewards experience or 8 years of commensurate experience
  • HR Certifications (PHR, SHRM, CEBS, CCP) preferred
  • Project and/or change management experience
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Experience managing multiple complex projects and processes and meeting strict deadlines
  • Knowledge of all pertinent federal, state, and local regulations, filings, and compliance requirements, both adopted and pending, affecting associate benefits and compensation programs, including but not limited to: ERISA, FLSA, FMLA, COBRA, ADA, Medicare, Social Security, and DOL requirements
  • Experience collaborating with teams and working independently
  • Comfortable making decisions and driving improvements

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job the associate may be required to sit for an extended amount of time, work in a controlled office atmosphere and spend extending hours in front of a computer screen.
  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
