SUMMARY: Under general direction, provides a leadership role in formulating policy and instituting models that promote medication safety in all aspects of the medication management process. In conjunction with the Director of Pharmacy, the role is responsible for coordinating all activities related to Pharmacy Operations, including but not limited to staffing, processes, standard operating procedures, metrics, inventory regulatory requirements and the medication supply.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification.
1. Assists with the supervision of day-to-day services/activities/functions, including drug distribution, clinical activities, inventory management, staff accountability, performance measurements, regulatory compliance, and staff development.
2. Assists with providing personnel management activities (e.g. recruits, hires, trains develops, evaluates subordinate hourly and contract personnel). Works with LR/HR in handling employee grievances. Completes and administers performance evaluations and ensures adherence to Departmental plan for completion of performance evaluations.
3. Responsible for the preparation and assignment of the staff's work schedules and daily activities. Makes staffing and scheduling adjustments to meet workload demands, in accordance with operational need.
4. Reviews and approves the biweekly payroll and monitors all overtime usage. Monitors staff attendance. Provides regular communication & feedback to the staff. Assists with the monitoring of personnel utilization in accordance with operating budget
5. Assists with the supervision of personnel & operational practices to ensure compliance with Federal, State, Board of Pharmacy laws & regulations, and assists with accreditation visits from the Board of Pharmacy, California Department of Public Health, Joint Commission, Center for Medicaid Services and other regulatory bodies.
6. Assist with 340B Drug Pricing Program compliance
7. As needed, serves as Pharmacist in Charge as required by the Board of Pharmacy
8. Assists with the development & implementation of pharmacy strategic initiatives.
9. Provides resolution to service complaints by patients, health care professionals, administration & employees.
10. Participates in designing, implementing and evaluating systems, processes, and methods designed to enhance quality, improve service, enhance efficiency and enhance cost effectiveness.
11.Assists with the development, revision and oversight of departmental standard work, policies & procedures and staff accountability.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Advanced degree, or approved American Society of Health-System Pharmacist residency preferred.
Education: Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy.
Minimum Experience: one to two years of recent hospital pharmacy experience. One year in management/supervisory capacity preferred.
Required Licenses/Certifications: Possession of a valid pharmacy license to practice in California.
