Job Description
The Manager - Coding Professional Billing (PB) reports to the Revenue Cycle, Director of PB Coding and may have Revenue Cycle supervisors as direct reports in a multi-site, multi-specialty academic medical center, Assures the integrity and stability of revenue and billing data. Is the coding subject matter expert for Revenue Cycle, as well as multiple areas outside the Revenue Cycle including specific physician practices and the Legal Department. Maintains expert knowledge of coding workflow and optimizes use of available technology.
Provides direction to professional and supervisory staff in the Revenue Cycle. Participates in strategic planning for the Enterprise Revenue Cycle. Translates the Mayo Clinic and departmental vision into meaningful and effective responses and results. Delegates responsibility and authority to carry out work. Manages multiple functions and serves as a resource with oversight in day to day activities. May manage multi-site operations. May possess technical knowledge appropriate to functions being managed with additional knowledge in other functions including professional management. Participates in the identification of opportunities to improve processes and to act as a catalyst for realizing these improvements. Acts as a facilitator and generator of new ideas and a mediator on difficult issues. Brings awareness of current external environment issues. Participates in the overall management of the Enterprise Revenue Cycle by chairing and serving on Enterprise projects/groups, task forces, councils and committees. Serves as a liaison between sections and other departments and agencies inside and outside Mayo. Creates customer service driven sections and fosters collaboration with physician and administrative colleagues. Builds teamwork within the Enterprise Revenue Cycle. Participates in retention planning initiatives. Travel required as assignments warrant.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and 8 years' experience, which includes at least two years of relevant financial leadership experience OR Master's degree and 6 years of relevant experience, which includes at least two years of relevant financial leadership experience OR in lieu of bachelor's degree, 12 years' of relevant experience is required, which includes two years of relevant financial leadership may be considered. Health care Revenue Cycle leadership experience preferred.
Additional Qualifications:
Requires an excellent understanding of CPT-4 surgical coding and ICD-10 CM diagnosis coding. Experience with direct physician interaction required. Knowledge of and experience with Finance systems and applications required. Has solid knowledge of Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Ability to establish a productive team-based work environment and collaborate effectively across multiple sites and functions. Demonstrated communication and presentation skills.
Licensure or Certifications:
Registered Health Information (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) preferred.
