Position Summary
"The MANAGER, INVESTMENTS & RETIREMENT helps provide day-to-day investment management oversight of the H-E-B Savings & Retirement Plan.
The Savings & Retirement Plan is a participant-directed 401(k) plan with three internally-managed global asset allocation funds, four index funds, and a money market fund.
Responsibilities
- Source, identify, evaluate, and monitor investment managers across multiple asset classes, including public and private market investments.
- Conduct regular due-diligence monitoring calls/visits with Plan investment managers and vendors; maintain due-diligence files.
- Assist Director with asset allocation decisions and hiring/termination of public and private market managers.
- Assist Director with ongoing investment/retirement planning education to H-E-B Partners and Plan participants.
- Perform ad hoc investment research and stays current on developments impacting the capital markets and the legal/regulatory environment impacting defined contribution plans.
- Interact and assist where needed with the Plan’s administrator and accounting staff.
- Participate in annual budget preparation for the Investment Office.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, guidance, and performance evaluations to junior Partners in the Investment Office.
- Some occasional travel is required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in a business-related discipline preferred (MBA, MSF).
- Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) professional designation preferred; progress toward completion of the designation required.
- Additional related professional designations are a plus (e.g., CAIA, CIPM).
- Minimum 5-7 years of institutional investment experience (e.g., DB/DC pension plan, endowment, or foundation) successfully working in investment manager due diligence and monitoring and multi-asset class portfolio management; 7-10 years of experience preferred.
- Familiarity with the provisions of ERISA and fiduciary responsibilities.
- Experience with private, illiquid investments and derivatives a plus.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and build relationships.
- Ability to exercise critical thinking and analytical skills; deliver quality, detail-oriented analysis and make well-reasoned decisions.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to make effective presentations.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and Morningstar Direct.
- Possess a high degree of intellectual curiosity and desire to learn.
- Ability to demonstrate integrity and a high degree of ethics.
- Ability to adapt quickly to the H-E-B culture of Partners, Community, Customers.
- A willingness to travel.
- Successful completion of a comprehensive background check.
