SUMMARY:
Relay Graduate School of Education (Relay) is welcoming applications for a Manager, Development on the Development team. Relay's mission is to ensure that all students are taught by outstanding educators. Our vision is to build a more just world where every student has access to outstanding educators and a clear path to a fulfilling life.
The Development team is responsible for securing private philanthropy to ensure that Relay's programs remain affordable for educators, and that the institution can pursue innovation, research, and design to meet educators' and schools' changing needs. The team's core work is to create a compelling value proposition and statement of past and future impact to aid in the critical work of ensuring Relay GSE meets its revenue goals, is able to innovate, and lives its mission, and vision. Reporting to the Vice President, Development, and in collaboration with internal teams, the role focuses on donor management and donor prospecting in alignment with Relay's current and future institutional priorities with a focus on innovation. A team-player who can work across teams and project manage with attention to detail, this person will play an integral role in the team's strategy to support Relay's growth.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The essential responsibilities of this position, while not limited to the following, will include:
Donor Management and Prospecting (70%)
  • Manage a portfolio of ~20+ private local and national donors with grant sizes ranging from $50K - >$500K by coordinating donor communications, grant proposals & reporting, and stewardship
  • Contribute to the Development's team annual fundraising goal of approximately $7-10M by updating quarterly projections of portfolio grants
  • Collaborate across Relay location and program leads in order to create strategies for donor outreach and relationship management
  • Conduct a ~monthly review of location specific priorities and current donors and donor prospects in order to secure renewal and/or new funding.
  • Prepare for and manage donor meetings by creating agendas for weekly, monthly, and quarterly meetings by identifying high level agenda items and donor updates, to drive fundraising goals
  • Lead and/or collaborate at donors meeting with location/program leads and Vice President, Development, in advance in order to meet annual team fundraising goals.
  • Partner with the Development team to design compelling written materials to directly support private fundraising efforts, including grant proposals and reports, presentations, and Relay location and program overviews and updates.
  • Support the vision set by the Vice President, Development by partnering and collaborating with the marketing and communications team to build a suite of strong, compelling collateral to be shared with both internal and external audiences
  • Conduct targeted, strategic research via databases, peer organizations' donors, etc. to identify and manage prospective donors (individuals and foundations) in order to meet annual team fundraising goals.
    • Develop and steward new donors by identifying potential connections for President, Chief Strategy Officer, and/or Vice President, Development.
  • Regularly meet with the Vice President, Development, Chief Strategy Officer, and/or President to review donors in order to maintain strong relationships with current donors and cultivate relationships with future donors.

Institutional Alignment (15%)
  • Draft monthly correspondence to donors on behalf of the President
  • Prepare for and occasionally lead cross-team meetings (~monthly) within the institution to secure and analyze data, and obtain programmatic updates in order to update donors
  • Collaborate with the Finance team to ensure philanthropic goals and activities align with the organization's budgets (weekly meetings and follow-ups, as applicable).
  • Partner and collaborate with the Relay partnerships team and program leaders across the country to stay closely abreast of organizational progress and priorities.
  • Perform other duties as required and assigned.

Systems and data management (15%)
  • Update and maintain development dashboards and trackers for easy access to current donor information, philanthropic funds raised, prospective donors, and fundraising goals
  • Continue to identify new ways to evolve current systems, such as a CRM, to ensure that donor and grant management is efficient and can scale to meet the needs of a growing organization.

QUALIFICATION
First and foremost, the Manager, Development must share the Relay community's commitment to working together to improve student growth and achievement through phenomenal teacher preparation grounded in diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism. Additionally, for this position we're looking for candidates that possess a combination of the following skills:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least 3 years' work experience
  • Excellent written communication skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work efficiently, intensely, and within an entrepreneurial environment
  • A demonstrated passion for urban education and closing the opportunity gap
  • Authorized to work in the United States

Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least 3 years experience in development.

COMPENSATION
Relay is committed to creating and maintaining a compensation and benefits system that supports our ability to recruit and retain a diverse and talented team. As we make decisions about compensation, we will be guided by the following values: clarity, consistency, and internal equity. The salary range for this role is $74,250-$111,375. New hires will be offered a salary at the starting point of the range, $74,250 to allow for an equitable starting salary process and continual salary growth during an employee's time at Relay GSE.
To ensure internal pay equity:
  • Relay does not currently differentiate starting salary offers based on years of experience,
  • All staff salaries will be capped at the salary range maximum, and
  • Relay does not negotiate salary offers.
