Harlem Children's Zone (HCZ) - a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York - seeks a highly-driven, multi-talented Manager, Communications to build awareness and support for HCZ through compelling storytelling that centers our thought leadership, impact, and the people we serve.
The Manager, Communications will join our Communications Team at the forefront of innovation at HCZ. The individual will be a skilled communicator, writer, and content creator with experience designing and implementing cross-channel communications strategies encompassing owned and earned media. The individual will join HCZ during a critical phase, as we work to scale our impact and put children across the country on the pathway to social and economic mobility.

What you'll do
Reporting to the Director, Communications, the Manager, Communications will help create and implement a communications strategy to advance key priorities: raise the profile of HCZ, with a special focus on our national initiatives, and drive talent recruitment, scholar enrollment, staff culture, and philanthropy. Working in collaboration with the Communications Team, and stakeholders across the organization, they will do this through compelling storytelling executed across our website, social media, email marketing, and printed content, and supporting on press placements and outreach. Some travel is required.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Create and/or edit written content highlighting the work of HCZ and our national initiatives, including website content, white papers, press releases, email marketing, thought leadership pieces, op-eds, newsletters, and social media captions
- Support the planning of events hosted by our national initiatives, including major conferences, press events, and site visits; this includes collaborating with our in-house designers to produce assets such as invitations, agendas, slide decks, and event guides
- Help manage our website, including creating and publishing written content, images and video, executing design updates, and optimizing SEO
- Help gather content for and manage the social media presences of our national initiatives, including on Instagram, X, LinkedIn, and Facebook, and manage their website pages
- Design processes and acquire new platforms to streamline communications efforts across the organization
- Coordinate filming and photography of events and other activities of our national initiatives
- Manage content produced for the national initiatives on our digital asset library
- Partner with our external public relations firm to raise the profile of HCZ and our national initiatives
Minimum Job Requirements
- At least 5-6 years' experience working in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, brand management, or related fields
- Experience working for a social impact organization, government institution, policymaker, or for-profit company with a social impact dimension
- Deep commitment to understanding and addressing the challenges facing underserved communities of color
- Ability to juggle multiple projects and priorities at once
- Commitment to HCZ values and mission
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent strongly preferred

The annual salary range for this position is $80,000-$85,000, with a comprehensive benefits package including employer-covered health insurance.
