Summary
Conducts all breast related procedures, including but not limited to: diagnostic breast imaging exams (including mammography, ultrasound, needle localizations, and stereotactic and ultrasound-guided biopsy). Creates an environment that is safe and risk-free that provides radiation protection according to the standards established by local, state, and federal requirements. Maintains oversight for quality control for equipment (some imaging departments may require cross-functional duties in diagnostic imaging). Performs basic clerical duties such as patient registration and appointment scheduling may be required at some sites. Participates in patient education and community outreach activities.
Job Duties
- Performs quality mammographic images utilizing ACR positioning guidelines along with evaluating technical quality of images. Makes necessary adjustments in positioning and/or technical factors to optimize images for all breast imaging studies.
- Confirms patient identification, reviews imaging requests and confirms study with patient. Explains procedures and provides education to patients.
- Interacts professionally as an effective team member, promoting a positive work environment
- Complies with hospital and department policies and procedures. Completes assigned education modules. Helps maintain MSQA/FDA/ACR compliance, assists with Quality Control evaluation and/or Performance Improvement.
- Communicates with care team members as appropriate. Enters accurate information into the EMR
- Ensures proper radiology equipment operation. Assists in error monitoring, troubleshooting, calling for repairs and notifying department management. Assumes responsibility for cleanliness of equipment & maintaining supplies. Recommends and implements appropriate actions based on accurate and timely quality control records and findings, if applicable.
Minimum Qualifications
- Specialized Diploma Graduate of AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology and
- Specialized Diploma registered Mammography Technologist certification
- less than 1 year Experience in screening and diagnostic mammographic breast imaging
- Ability to initiate, accept, and adapt to constant change within a healthcare environment.
- Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
- Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to perform quality imaging and communicate with patients
- Flexibility in work hours and/or sites to meet identified needs. Performs necessary assignments as directed
- ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Upon Hire
- CMT - Certified Mammography Tech Upon Hire
- BLS - Basic Life Support within 60 Days
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's Degree Graduate of AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology
Physical Demands
Lift and carry 25 lbs.frequent sitting/standing, frequent keyboard use, *patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
