Falls Church is an independent city six miles from the nation's capital. It is small in area (2.2 square miles) and population (~16,000). Responsibilities:
- Perform installation, maintenance construction and repair of streets, sidewalks, curb and gutter, and storm sewer in the City-right-of-way and City-owned property;
- Perform masonry and concrete work including; setting forms, ordering material, pouring and finishing concrete for sidewalk, curb and gutter and storm sewer repair;
- Perform work related to leaf vacuum and snow removal operations;
- May perform some pothole and asphalt work including; ordering materials, spreading and compacting material, sealing and finishing;
- Perform traffic sign repair and replacement;
- Perform work related to maintaining the storm drain system including; routine cleaning and repair of pipe and structures;
- Operate trucks, tractors, back-hoe, and other equipment in connection with assigned tasks;
- Frequent heavy lifting (ability to lift up to 50 pounds);
- Emergency over time work as required;
- Performs other tasks as assigned.
Mandatory Requirements:
- Experience in outdoor manual labor;
- Valid Drivers License with good driving record
- Able to perform manual labor outdoors for extended periods in adverse weather conditions;
- Able to follow oral instructions and work well with others;
- Finalists will be administered a complete physical examination, including a drug screen as well as a criminal history background check;
- Must follow all requirements as specified for the type of work being performed.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: This position is considered emergency service personnel; individual selected is required, as a condition of employment, to be available to respond to emergencies.
Hours: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, plus overtime emergency hours as required.
Salary and Benefits: starting at $44,220, depending on qualifications. This is a full time position with all City benefits.
