Maintenance Worker I
Salary: $17.1379 - $22.4196 Hourly Plus Benefits

Maintenance Worker I: This is an entry level class in the Maintenance Worker class series. This job class is normally a trainee position with the incumbent advancing to level II as the difficulty and complexity of their duties increase and have been cross trained in a variety of repair and maintenance tasks. This position is within the Parks & Recreation Department and reports directly to the Parks Maintenance Supervisor
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Maintaining City facilities and parks.
- Operating power and hand tools; edging; weeding lawns, flower beds and other landscaped areas.
- Cutting and planting sod, pruning trees, spreading seed and fertilizer; planting or removing flowers and trees.
- Maintaining and assisting in designing, constructing, repairing and/or installing in-ground irrigation systems.
- Cleaning walks, parking areas and other areas of leaves and debris.
- Operating power mowers, blowers, edgers, hedge trimmers, clippers, sprayers, vacuums and other equipment or vehicles.
- Making minor repairs and up-keeping park equipment.
- Preparing sports fields.
- Cleaning, repairing and removing trash from restrooms.
- Sweeping and mopping rooms, halls, stairways and offices. When needed striping, sanding, refinishing, waxing and buffing floors, vacuuming and shampooing carpets and upholstery.
- Ensuring specified sanitary standards are maintained in all City facilities.
- Cleaning and disinfecting restrooms, floor mats, drinking fountains and class rooms.
- Removing markings on walls, restroom stalls, counter tops and desks; washing windows, mirrors and blinds; moving furniture or other heavy objects on request or for set-up of City functions.
- Making minor repairs and adjustments to building fixtures.
- Securing City Hall and related City facilities.
- Ordering supplies as needed, Reporting needed maintenance and repair.
Minimum Requirements:
Experience: Any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for satisfactory job performance.
Possession of or ability to obtain a Class C California driver's license within probationary period. Have and/or maintain a satisfactory driving record. Possession of or ability to obtain a Class A or B California driver’s license with appropriate endorsements may be required for some assignments. Have a minimum of 6 months progressive work responsibilities.
