• Plans, organizes, schedules, supervises and assists with the work of maintenance staff in cleaning and maintaining recreational facilities and surrounding grounds.
• Maintains a supply inventory; orders cleaning supplies and purchases needed equipment.
• Trains and instructs staff in the proper cleaning, maintenance and repair of facilities and equipment.
• Inspects playgrounds to determine safety and maintenance needs; schedules maintenance work as needed.
• Reviews and responds to requests for emergency maintenance and repair work.
• Supervises the maintenance of ballfields, playgrounds, parks, and other departmental facilities.
• Supervises the landscaping of grounds at departmental facilities.
• Supervises the maintenance and repair of departmental buildings.
• Supervises the cleaning of departmental buildings, including the cleaning and stocking of restrooms.
• Supervises the removal of trash and debris from buildings and grounds.
• Supervises and assists with the preparation of ballfields, gymnasiums and other facilities for games.
• Supervises and assists with the performance of routine plumbing, carpentry and electrical repairs on buildings.
• Supervises and assists with the maintenance and repair of departmental vehicles and equipment.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Director assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for accuracy and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES: Guidelines include departmental and safety policies and procedures, departmental schedules, and county building codes. These guidelines are clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY: This position consists of related tasks in supervising and assisting with basic building, grounds, and equipment maintenance tasks.
SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to supervise and perform building and grounds maintenance tasks. Successful performance helps ensure a safe and comfortable environment for departmental activities.
PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with co-workers, other county employees, city employees, program participants, and the general public.

PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, provide services, and motivate personnel.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed with the employee sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is performed both indoors and outdoors. The employee is exposed to dust, dirt, and inclement weather.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: This position has direct supervision over Recreation Maintenance Worker (2) and Athletic Assistant (2) and functional supervision over part-time and seasonal personnel.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
• Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years of experience or service.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
