Job Duties
Position will plan, develop, deliver, and operate all aspects of an area headquarters transportation maintenance program in compliance with established schedules and budgets. Position will supervise overall activities of crew members in the repair and maintenance of roads in an assigned geographical work area. Position duties will include incident/safety management, 24/7 snow and ice operations, responding to citizen concerns, prioritizing work orders in conjunction with routine and emergency maintenance activities, and dealing with the public. This position is designated as essential and, as such, all duties associated with this job are required during emergency situations which may include but are not limited to inclement weather, disaster response and emergency operations. Additional vacancies in the Appomattox Residency may be filled from this recruitment.
Minimum Qualifications
Considerable experience with highway construction and maintenance equipment, materials and work methods, practices, and procedures. Demonstrated ability to organize and plan work within a budget, develop cost estimates and manage inventory. Experience supervising staff. Ability to schedule, plan and monitor work activities. Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures. Ability to gather data, conduct research and create reports and correspondence. Skill in reading road and bridge sketches. Skill in the use of computers and software applications.
Additional Considerations
Experience planning, developing and managing a budget and managing inventory. Experience managing performance and applying progressive discipline. Experience leading emergency operations activities. Commercial driver's license.
