The Maintenance Engineer analyzes and develops data to determine specific problems in production equipment or processes and prepare countermeasure, improvements modifications or retrofits to meet or exceed production targets. Provide technical support to supervisors, skilled trades and producers to reduce downtime and operate at a cost-effective level.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Understand safety procedures, as well as the impact of potential working hazards
- Provide leadership during equipment trouble shooting to return equipment to correct production requirements and initiate countermeasures to eliminate future potential downtime.
- Work with Process Planning team during development / launch of new equipment, tooling, and processes.
- Collect accurate data on production equipment problems to prepare proposals to improve equipment performance.
- Lead and support automation related troubleshooting events, in collaboration with Controls Engineering and Engineering department.
- Prepare conceptual or working sketches of electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic operating devices to instruct skilled and trades on work orders and modifications.
- Prepares Scope of Work documentation for tendering of equipment quotations, machine revisions, facility or building renovations and service work within the plant.
- Determine electrical loads and requirements to correctly select and size components, wire, conduit, transformers, relays and contactors.
- Identify probable failure causes of automated production machinery with Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLC/SLC's, DC Drives, AC Drives, and servo systems.
- Understand and use measuring instruments - dial indicators, gauge blocks, thickness gauges, calipers, and micrometers to check components to drawings or verify design tolerances.
- Test electrical circuits in motor controls, distribution panels, contactors, relays and timers using a multi meter to trouble shoot problem sources in an urgent manner.
- Create equipment or process PM procedures.
- Develop specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draw or sketch design of product.
- Provide positive support to continuous improvement activity as assigned.
- Identify and source components to standardize spare parts on manufacturing equipment.
- Assume project leadership on problem solving situations, improvement activity and cost reduction duties.
- Contribute to the skill set development of the organization by training the Maintenance and Manufacturing teams on specialty areas.
- Working knowledge of ladder logic and electrical schematics.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university.
- 5 to 10 years of experience in maintenance or manufacturing support.
- Five years industrial experience on highly automated assembly lines, including robots (Kuka, Fanuc, Mitsubishi, etc.) preferred.
- Minimum 3 years training and experience with Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLC including analog inputs and outputs, HMI, online cameras, math functions, and MOVE statements. preferred.
- Experience with Vacuum and pressure decay testing equipment. preferred.
- Must be able to train others effectively.
- Ability to read and comprehend multiple task instructions, correspondence and memos.
- Ability to read and understand complex machine and component drawings.
- Recognition of problems in equipment or tool designs and implements countermeasures to improve operating performance.
- Prepare / present technical information one on one, small / large groups or managers meeting.
- Prioritize multiple repair problems.
- Self-directed and ability to perform with minimum supervision.
- Strong knowledge of safety practices.
- Microsoft Word/Excel
- Knowledge of QS9000, ISO14001 and TS16949 standards as applicable to the position.
- Excellent attendance record.
