PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Salary to commensurate with experience
The Hiring range for this position is $22.01-$28.76/Hourly
The Salary Range for this Position is $22.01-$35.95/Hourly
Signing Bonus: New employees are eligible for a $5,000 bonus; with $2,500 paid on the first payroll, and $2,500 paid upon completion of six (6) month introductory period from hire date.

OVERVIEW OF POSITION / DEPARTMENT
The mission of the Public Works Department is to effectively promote and maintain a high level of economic welfare and quality of life in Aurora through the planning, design, construction, inspection, review, approval and maintenance of Aurora's transportation and drainage infrastructure.
The Maintenance and Operations Specialist - Traffic performs skilled manual and technical work for the Traffic Signals Division of the Public Works Department.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Monitors and inspects equipment and systems to determine the need for repair
  • Analyzes malfunctions and makes repairs or adjustments
  • Coordinates, monitors, and/or performs installation of solid state and mechanical equipment and systems used in traffic control
  • Checks equipment for proper operation
  • Schedules and performs preventive maintenance
  • Designs and fabricates equipment parts as necessary
  • Monitors and oversees contract work
  • May operate computerized control and monitoring systems
  • Maintains records of operation, maintenance, and repairs
  • Prepares related reports
  • Maintains inventory of parts and supplies
  • Trains subordinate employees
  • Acts as lead worker
  • Work overtime, standby and/or call back duty
  • Performs additional duties as required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Education:
  • High School Diploma or GED

Experience:
  • Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in traffic signal equipment maintenance

Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of the principles of electronics, electrical equipment, programmable controllers, and related computers

Abilities:
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and citizens
  • Read electronic schematics and blueprints
  • Work quickly and safely under pressure of emergency situations
  • Instruct and train other employees
  • Maintain records, logs, and reports
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing

Skills:
  • Skill in troubleshooting and repair of control equipment to the component level
  • Programming and use of various computer operating systems and software

Licenses, Certifications, and equipment required:
  • A valid Colorado Driver's License with a good driving history
  • Required to obtain certification as a Traffic Signal Technician (Level 2) from the International Municipal Signal Association

WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical Demands:
  • Moderate to heavy physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of pounds
  • Frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Regular walking and standing
  • Frequent performance of activities requiring a full range of body movement including bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, climbing and crawling
  • Considerable eye/hand/foot coordination to operate tools and automotive equipment as well as for driving equipment and vehicles
  • Speech and hearing to receive and provide technical information and instructions

Work Environment:
  • Works both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions with exposure to noise, dust, and fumes
  • Exposure to high/low voltage electrical equipment

Equipment Used:
  • Standard business and professional equipment and tools including computers with applicable diagnostic and records management applications
  • This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment

Essential Personnel:
  • When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel
