This position requires a valid Class E driver license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department's Drivers Record Requirements Policy. An unacceptable driving record is defined as any of the following:

  • three (3) or more moving violations in the past 3 years that accumulate 3 or more points per violation;
  • any 2 convictions of reckless driving in the past 3 years;
  • a suspension or revocation of the driver license for moving violations in the past 3 years; and
  • a suspension or revocation for refusal to take a sobriety test, or any suspension or revocation for a DUI conviction in the past 4 years

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Serve as mailroom clerk to receive, sort, process, and deliver inbound and outbound mail and packages. Provides customers with postal information assisting in identifying the correct postage amount, and the most economical means of mailing documents and/or other parcels. Prepare outgoing mail/packages by applying proper packaging and shipping processing methods. Tracks and delivers all inbound and outbound packages and delivers all received packages promptly (within the same day received depending on the time of delivery). Maintains all mailroom equipment in good working order, inspects and reports all equipment issues promptly calling for service and repairs as needed. Operates mailing machines, postage scales, and shipping terminals. Tracks various mail room operations such as monthly postage, number of packages received, express and ground packages sent, and others as needed. Research all missing and delayed deliveries of packages and mail. Deliver and pick up mail from the US Post Office and Post Office (PO) boxes utilizing a state owned vehicle. Perform research for packages missing mailing information. Communicate with customers to attempt deliveries. Ensure that packages and delivered and a signature is obtained. Ensure that a shipping and mailing form is completed for all packages shipped from the Turnpike mailroom. Use a handheld scanner to track inventory of general office supplies, office equipment, and incoming and outgoing packages. Answer overflow calls from the mainline console. Respond to inquiries regarding damaged or missing packages.


Answer overflow calls from the Guest Services mainline console at the mailroom phone console and provide callers with accurate information, identify the callers’ needs, and transfer them to the appropriate party as needed. Complete mailroom monthly reports of how many packages were received, and shipped, calls received at the mailroom phone console, and end-of-the-month postage balance.


Transport motor pool vehicles to and from the maintenance yard as needed. Assist the Reprographics department with various functions that include but are not limited to related procedures, which include scan requests, print requests, creating business cards, notepads, newsletters, brochures, and other printed materials. Delivers printed materials to proper departments within Florida’s Turnpike Headquarters complex or mails out the requests to the other locations. Delivers and installs copy paper, office supplies, and toner to all business centers within Florida’s Turnpike Headquarters Complex.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of mailroom operations. Knowledge of postal processes. Skilled in the use of mailroom equipment. Skilled in the use of computers. Ability to manage time. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to follow instructions. Ability to follow policies and procedures. Ability to lift and move boxes weighing 50 pounds and transport up to 75 lbs. using a dolly or cart. Ability to plan and organize work activities with minimal supervision. Ability to perform work promptly. Ability to provide professional customer service. Ability to work with customers and co-workers in a tactful, courteous, and professional manner. Ability to greet customers by phone and in person. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to deliver mail to the proper departments. Ability to use a mail tracking system. Ability to use good sound judgment for problem-solving issues. Knowledge of international shipping and handling.
